Hey ,

Better get a Asrock Mobo with K8M800 Chipset! Its have even a 939 pin upgrade socket available. Sempron 2500+ & the Asrock should cost arnd rs 5.5k.
& yes this has agp/pci locks & even has vcore adjustments.
Better off using a sempron 2600+ with this mobo just necasue of a better multiplier which should help to atleast overclock the proccy to arnd 2Ghz.
My frend got a cheapo pc & could easily oc to 2 Ghz using this combo.

K8XXXXX chipset = no agp/pci locks. The only VIA chipset that actually has locks are the later versions of K8T800 pro. Even the early revisions of this chip had issues with locking the AGP/PCI bus.

AFAIK,the CPU-EZ Upgrade model from Asrock which is S754 but can be upgraded to 939 is based on SIS 760 chipset and not VIA chipset. Also the board DOES not come with the upgrade card and it has to be purchased seperately. What's more,it has not been imported by the importers along with the board,so whats the point ?
Also IMHO the SIS chipset has better onboard grafix than the VIA crap.:P

- The Semprons do not support Cool n Quiet - hence no use installing the Cool n Quiet driver.

Ok so is the C&Q processor dependant? coz the mobo supports it.

Also I read lots of places that 754s dont support dual channel but it says right here that it does.
http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket754/k8s-mx/overview.htm
In the specifications of this mobo it says....
800 Mhz FSB (1600 Mhz FSB)... whats that 1600.

Check the screenshot. Can I sue them. Will they give me a 939 loaded mobo and proc as damages.

Anyway if there is anything that I need to know to tune or whatever then I have attached the cpuz log.

Hey Darky,

Thanx for pointing thats its actually a Northbridge: SiS 760GX, Southbridge: SiS 964.

But the K8Upgrade-760GX that u get from Abacus Peripherals bundles the socket 939 upgrade card as well as my friend also received that along with the board.

Actually as abacus is distributor of both AMD as well as ASrock the bundle offer for sempron 2500+ 64-bit & K8Upgrade-760GX is arnd rs 5.5k.

The link for the mobo on abacus site is:

dual channel..must be a typo :P

1600 = 800x2. 800 in one way, 800 in another. its a full duplex hypertransport ;)

Cool n Quiet basically drops the processor's multiplier to a lower value when the load on the processor is less (4x multiplier, so your proc speed becomes : 200 x 4 = 800Mhz) , and ramps it back up to the default value when the processor load is more. The lower clock speeds help keep temps low/fan speeds low.

All Semprons are multiplier locked, i.e. the multiplier stays at the default value (7.0x in your case). Cool n Quiet operates only by working with the multiplier and hence cant be utilised on Semprons.
