Hello Techguys,

I am buying a new system...want to know from Tech experts, if the configuration sounds good. My budget was between 65-70K.

- Core i7-920 Rs 14600
- DFI LanParty DK X58 T3eH6 - Rs 14750 or Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Rs 16750.
- PATRIOT Viper 6GB DDR3 1600MhZ triple Channel Rs 9200 or G-Skills 1333MHz 6GB Kit Rs. 6800
- Zotec 9800GT 1GB DDR3 Rs 6950 or Sapphire HD4850 HDMI - 512MB for Rs 6990
- CoolerMaster CM690 - Rs. 4500 or NZXT 921 Guardian Rs 4680 or Antec 300 Rs 4100 (I like Antec 900 looks, but don't like the transparent panel, plus it is Rs 7300)
- PSU-> GlacialPower AL650 Rs 4900 or Corsair VX550 Rs. 5800 or Antec EA650 Rs. 4900, would even consider Seasonic 500W.
- BenQ 24" G2412HD Rs 12000, or 22" E2200HD HDMI - or Rs 10900
- Seagate 500GB 7200.12 - Rs 2900
- Misc (DVDRW + KB/Mouse) - Rs 2000

First and foremost, are all these compatible? Secondly, What is the best configuration?
Are DFI Mobo and Patriot Ram better......price & performance wise?

I don't play games that much [but wouldn't wanna leave that option].
I would be running high end 3D graphic software mostly and web browsing.

Also needed to know if I should go for XP 64bit or Vista 64bit?

Please suggest...Thanks in advance....

My Suggesstion:

i7 920, Gigabyte UD5, Gskill 1600 6GB Kit for 8-8.5k from Pheonix, Saphire HD 4870/4890 or Zotac GTX 275 AMP Edition, CM690/NZXT Tempest, Corsair VX550 or Tagan TG600-U37/BZ600, BenQ 24" G2412HD, Seagate 7200.12 1TB/500GB, Sony DVD-RW, Gigabyte KM6000 or Philips SPT3700 whichever suites your economy needs. These above products are the most reviewed products and most sold.

Thanks, Where is Phoenix, though? Is it in Navi Mumbai or Lamgtn rd.?
- Graphic Cards _> GTX & HD4870 are out of my range. Need to settle for HD4850 512MB or 9800GT 1GB.
- Don't you think, BenQ 24" would be little too much, since I'll be sitting only 3 fts away? I intially wanted that, but people told me go for 22", resolution plus legibility would be much better.

I would be running Solidworks, Autocad like software on the m/c.

Govind, Instead of UD5 you can also go for DFI LP UT X58-T3eH8, its rock Solid in performance, You can also settle down for DFI LP DK X58-T3eH6, for a chap price. Difference between them is only OC'ng so anything between them will be a worth Buy.

+1
Also, if you are getting your RAM from the US/KMD, consider the OCZ Flex 3x2GB kit, currently available for a steal on newegg.

The GPU you've listed will be a pretty weak link for the rest of the system, and for full HD gaming. I would suggest atleast an HD 4870 1GB/GTX 260 for it. Also, if you aren't getting cards beyond the aforementioned, a Corsair VX450 will serve you fine, letting you avoid the more expensive PSU options and allocate that budget where needed(GPU).

Those are some really nice kits, thanks for bringing them up.(Man, why cant G.Skill use black PCBs? : @)

Im not sure if they are worth the premium over the flex though, which does 1600 @ CL7 and should pretty easily do 2000Mhz @ CL9 with those insane heatspreaders if this kit is anything like the DDR2 counterpart.
Newegg.com - OCZ Flex EX Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kits Desktop Memory Model OCZ3FXE1600C7LV6GK - Desktop Memory
The flex are also considerably cheaper.

@OP
If you've got the coin, go with any of these kits, you won't be disappointed. :)

@Sato
8GB? What? We are talking about tri channel memory here, where 3GB is the sweet spot, 6GB is future proof and 12GB is overkill(read: waste).

^^oh yea forgot the 3gb funda :p

I find phenomenal difference in 4gb and 8gb whn working in Maya. Even though I haven't tried putting 12gb in that system, but I'm sure it will be better than current 8gb.

The guy you have been in touch with ? lol. Calling you.

@Phoenix - Hi Sudhir, Forgot u r the Phoenix dealer.....
Thank you for suggesting all the components for my requirements.
Anyways, via this thread, I'm just trying to get some final opinions on my config. before purchase. I hope you won't mind.

@Shahbaaz - Thanks, but DFI LP UT X58-T3eH8 is expensive (As per Phoenix). I need to stay below 70K overall.

@Devinwolf & Amien - It seems G-Skills 1600MHZ 6GB kit is out of stock. OCZ is only available at NewEgg. Plz, let me know where to get G-Skills or OCZ kits, here in mumbai, (under Rs. 8000),

@sato1986 - Amien is right. I am using Trichannel 6GB DDr3 1600MHz, which is probably better than 8Gb Dual channel 1333MHz. So it should be okay.
Also, I am little confused on HD4850 512MB vs Zotec 9800GT 1GB.
You say 9800Gt is better, but "Phoenix", tells me...HD4850 has better cooling (dual fans) and better buy for the price. I know GPU (especially ATI's) gets pretty hot and requires cooling and sometimes ATI has compatibility issues with some 3D graphics software. Pricewise both are same..

Core i7-920 Rs 14600

- DFI LanParty DK X58 T3eH6 - Rs 14750

- G skill trident 6gb 1600MHZ CL6 - 9k (through KMD)

- Sapphire HD4850 HDMI - 512MB for Rs 6990

- NXZT tempest - 6k

- corsair VX 450 - 4k

- BenQ 24" G2412HD Rs 12000

- Seagate 500GB 7200.12 - Rs 2900

- Misc (DVDRW + KB/Mouse) - Rs 2000

Dude, As I said Earlier you can go for DK Series as well.

I think Sudhir also sells Gskill Rams. So I hope you will get a good deal from him.

@Shahbaaz - Sudhir said that G-skills are out of stock and there is only Patriot Viper 6GB availabla within 9K budget at present and the prices for Rams are slowly hiking.

Also, HD4850-> though high thermal emmisive card does have cooling fans and has HDMI port good for BenQ monitor. But I surveyed, it does have some software issues, locking up, freezing comp. problems. Apparentely Zotac 9800GT 1GB is also good card for running 3D graphic software, but does not have HDMI. I am only confused about the graphics card...since the budget is only under 7K.

Have you checked the link in my link ? :p you haven't.

Have you ever compared a workstation card to a normal desktop card for 3d work?

Just google this and you will be shocked to know that Nvidia quadro fx 3700 is almost two times faster than HD4850 because it's totally optimized for 3d WORK.

Quadro fx3700 will costs you around 20k while 9800Gt can be modded into quadro for free!

And regarding heating, 9800gt is much much cooler than hd4850 and doesn't need a dual slot cooler.

Also, video memory is veryy important for 3d work and hence this is where 9800gt 1gb further pawns the hd4850 512.

Choice is yours.

PS: Just go through my prev link to know more.

@sato I did go through your link. How do you modd 9800Gt to Quadro FX 3700 for free? Please explain. Do you know any GT series GPU having HDMI?

HD4850 do have HDMI output compatible with my BenQ monitor...and maybe useful for future technologies. Also, don't know, if HD4850 can be modded into FirePro V8700 (that will work be awesome too for my Solidworks compatibility and Vista X64 OS).

@sato:
Found Link/guide showing how to modd nvidia cards to quadro

and

Also, found link for modding HD4850 to FireGL [Mod drivers 8.603] on Vista x64
[see towards bottom of the page]

Now, the question:
After modding 9800GT to Quadro FX3700 and HD 4850 to FirePro V8700 [FireGL],
which card is better for running 3D?

Everyone who does gaming -> opts for HD4850 over 9800GT, but honestly, is there anyone who've used this card successfully using Solidworks or AutoCAD?

I had bought a PC for a friend of mine who was doing CAT, he was using Autocad and recently upgraded to ver. 2009, Without any Softmod his rendering and all that kinda thing was working absolutely fine.

For another friend I bought similar who is completing Animation, the only difference was that I had bought him Abit IP35-E and his 3DMaX was rocking.
