Graphic Cards Need help buying GPU for my PSU. Budget 12k

Wait a min. Why is every1 telling me to buy a new PSU? I think HD4850 needs only 1 6-pin connector and this 1 is good enuf for it? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats what we do

and i personally feel corsair should sponser TE for suggestion of vx450 blindly :jumpy:

You can opt for Powercolor 4850 1Gb for some 7.5k.

There are some hot deals goin on the market for the same. It has arctic cooling fan, which is bout 90mm and runs really cool. It has gr8 oc potential, and GTS 250 wont come close to a 4850 1GB OC.

This is the model

Or no better vfm than a 4870 512 for 9.2k. It performance close to a GTX 260 upto 1680*1050 and at 1920*1080 its bout 15%~20% slower due to limited 512MB. ANd a CM EP 600 shud run a 4870.

btw @ blackprince

his card is 8800gts 320MB 80nm, not the later 65nm GTS 512MB which was renamed to 9800GTX, then + and then GTS250.

Both GTS 250 and 4850 are far better and optimised than older 8800gts 320.

if u hav cooler master extreme 500 w then
don't think anything. Jus go for gtx 260. And if i sugest go for leadtek winfast
gtx 260 extreme+ . its awesome card in a budget of 12k.
it will cost u around 11-11200.

i think "obsessed about it is" more like it and a coillective disorder called "Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD)"

Nope in case you have not been around, search a lil bit on the threads for PSU suggestions. PSU is easily the most important component of a system.

The reason why alarm bell rings seeing a CM extreme PSU's is because of the high failure rates and apparent over wattage claims. But since the OP already has the PSU, it does not make sense in ditching it and buying a new one. The seniors here normally caution people from buying the CM extreme PSU's. And the apparent love for "VX450" stems from no competition previously at that price point. Now we do have options in the form of CM realpower, Gigabyte "FSP" OEM's etc. But a proven track record and plus a 5 yr warranty yet edges the VX450 from other PSU's.

@OP last I checked the GTS 250 is marginally faster then 4850, and no where close to whooping its ass, as someone informed. IMO its also 1K more, which does not justify the performance premium. Amarbir was selling a Sapphire 4850 for 6.5k odd, that would be the sweet spot. 4850 heating issues are a thing of past, where the fan speed used to be capped. Saphhire's cooling aparatus is also pretty effective. In the end its upto you GTS 250 is also not a bad VFM, + Nvidia gives a much better driver support in Linux.

are you nuts giving such horrible suggestions.....why dont you try this setup on your system instead...... i have used this psu for 7 months and i know its limitation........it was running a HD 4850 fine but it just wont cut a gtx 260....please dont give such idiotic ideas without any experience or proofs...

i agree with most of ur points and i dont say that corsair vx450 is a bad PSU, my point is it just seems to me that in every post if i read here from the time i joined if there anything to do with a new system or anything to do with a graphics card people just throw in that name.

hence the word OBSESSED.

i even saw some one recommend this psu for somebody's basic box... hence the use of the word OCD
because it seems to be a compulsive thing to do whenever some one needs a new psu

i am not saying that the PSU is bad, i am saying unless there is a need for such a PSU why just throw it in ... maybe its time to move to some other product to be obsessed with?

Well, thank you guys for all your suggestions and help :D
Good news is I bought a Sapphire HD4850 for 7.5k and also a Corsair 2GB gaming RAM for 2k. Another good news is as soon as I bought all this stuff and came back home, my 8800 GTS 320MB started working :S . So, now bad news is I have 2 GPUs and need to sell the 8800 GTS
It is out of warranty but seems to be working just fine.....please suggest at what price should I put it for on ebay :)
Thanks

Corsair 650W + GTS250

Let me say this very clearly, the CM Extreme series has very unreliable and POS PSU's..

Please upgrade it first..

Go for a Corsair CX400/SeaSonic 380W or Tagan TG500/Corair VX450/CM Real Power 460w if you intend on buying GTX260 or plan on upgrading later..

Sell ur CM 500w, a 260/4870+VX450 combo should cost you around ~14k, a 4850+VX450 will cost you around 11k

The TX 650 itself costs 7k+ :bleh:
he was asking to get a GPU for his current PSU, and people are recommending him a new PSU, which itself costs more than his intended GPU.

btw, G80[older 80nm] core dun support dedicated physics.:bleh:

best bet is to sell it for 3~3.5k. 9600GT[4.6k] is a tough competitor which is smaller, and consumes much less power and performs slightly better due to higher clocks and 512MB VRAM, and 256 bit memory.

Hi again guys,

I bought a Corsair 1x2GB 800 Mhz Gaming RAM (CGM2X2GS800) for 2.1k to upgrade from my old Corsair 2x1GB 667@750 Mhz RAM (Value Select) but the old ones seem to be faster than the new ones. Have I made a mistake by buying the new one? or should I just buy 1 more Corsair 1x2GB 800 Mhz Gaming RAM (CGM2X2GS800) to make it 2x2GB and everything will be fine? Here's the link of the new RAM: http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/98717/MEMORY_NOTEBOOK_DDR-2_RAM/Corsair/CGM2X2GS800.asp

Specifications:

NEW: Corsair 1x2GB 800 Mhz Gaming RAM (CGM2X2GS800) 5-5-5-18-2T tRRD 3, tRC 23, tWR 5, tWRT 9, tRED 7.8uS, Heatspreader present

OLD: Corsair 2x1GB 667@750 Mhz RAM (Value Select) 5-5-5-15-1T tRRD 3, tRC 19, tWR 4, tWRT 9, tRED 7.8uS, Heatspreader absent

GTS 250 is nothign but your old 8800 in new stickers

( apart from minor clock overclock and 55 nm fab)

No one checks what people post before them anymore?

3 pages long and still unchecked for what it seems a mistake as per my failing memory. :S

Ain't the GTS250 a rehashed 9800GTX+ with 55nm fab, a shorter length overall and a single 6-pin PCIe connector? :S

The OP has an 8800GTS 320MB (G80) iirc, not even the 8800GTS 512MB (G92). :S
