Need Help Finding a Second GPU for Gaming and AI Work

Hey everyone,

I'm an enthusiast who currently uses my NVIDIA A4000 16GB GPU for Stable Diffusion tasks and testing LLM's. It handles my AI and rendering workloads decently, but when it comes to gaming, the A4000 just doesn't cut it.

Instead of building a second PC, I'm considering upgrading my current system with an additional GPU dedicated to gaming. I'm looking at a budget of around 30K (I can stretch the budget if the price-to-performance ratio makes sense). Options I'm considering include something like the Intel Arc A770 or a similar AMD card—I'm not aiming for 4K gaming, so 1080p should be more than sufficient. I've also heard that some of these cards perform well in deep learning tasks.

Can you please help with my questions:
  • Dual-GPU Feasibility: Is it feasible to run two different GPUs in one system—one for AI/rendering and another for gaming?
  • Compatibility Concerns: Will mixing GPUs (i.e., keeping my A4000 for AI work and adding a dedicated gaming card from another brand) lead to any compatibility or driver issues?
  • System Upgrades: I know I’ll need to upgrade my power supply. Are there any other modifications or considerations I should be aware of when setting up a dual-GPU configuration?

I'm not in a hurry—I can wait 1–2 months if needed. If you think I should hold off for a good second-hand option or a new release from Intel or AMD, I'd really appreciate your insights and experiences.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Your case ? Your board and cpu ?

  • Mother board - PRIME H610M-E D4 (Asus)
  • BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 1009, 1/14/2022
  • Case - Ant Esports Elite 1000 PS Mid-Tower Computer Case/Gaming Cabinet - Black | Supports M-ATX, ITX with Pre-Installed 1 x 120mm Black Rear Fan
  • Ram - 32 gb
  • GPU - A4000 16 gb
  • Power supply - Cooler Master MWE 750 Bronze V2 Power Supply (may be I don't need to change the power supply)
  • Storage - SSD 1tb , SSD 512 gb
Why not another Nvidia 30 or even 40 series card ?
Initially though of going with 4070ti but not happy with there cost in India. Also Wanted to see other options like A770 or AMD RX 7600 XT
as Gaming will the main use on them and I thought it will be good learning curve to run the AI on them Knowing I have A4000 in case I really want to run some AI and ML tasks.
Yeah, for AI/ML workloads, Nvidia is still the easiest option among the three.
Yes but I wanted to enjoy the journey of running the AI/ML task on intel and AMD cards, as it would be good learning to understand under the hood how the LLM's works

Upto you but neither RED nor BLUE is as mature in this space as GREEN. Dated but instructive, nonetheless -

Ok will need to replace MB then, any suggestions
Go through these links and choose one with multiple PCIe x16 slots.

i5-12400 supports these PCIe configs which may lead to some throttling on the second card.
