First of all I want to clarify something...
VIEWING DISTANCE:10 feet, not 5 feet as I had stated earlier,,
well for ur viewing distance i would recommend a 40inch or atleast a 37inch.
some people are just fine with 32inch,so in the end its upto you.

Ok,so now am zeroing in!
But adder and src2206 are going on kinda different bandwagons,,,
adder promoting the PVA Lcds,i.e Samsung and src2206 shouting that s-IPS is the best out of the lot,i.e. thumping about LG...
BTW...src2206 which LG 32" did u buy???
And adder:what do u mean by local dimming Leds while referring to s-IPS Lcds??
and could u guys confirm, whether LG32LH70 wiz. Scarlet 2.0 has this local dimming???
well i never said a company A is better then company B.all i said was the advantage of company A and B.
now S-IPS cannot be considered the best, nor can we say the SPVA or AMVA is best.if u look at what i have told earlier i only said that SPVA or AMVA based tvs like sony and samsung have the good edge in contrast and shadow detail.
well i didn't mention anything about local dimming or leds.
what i did say was that when manufactures like panasonic,LG,philips say the contrast they are talking about the dynamic contrast, which is achieved by dimming the entire backlight to get deeper blacks or brighten up the backlight to get brigher whites, this works only if the picture shown in the screen is completly black or complety white, but in reality the a image consits of black and white images etc at the same time,so what happens is that panasonic lg lcds dim the backlight,in doing so u will loose shadow details, since the tv will try to dim the backlight in order to give u better blacks but in doing so u will loose shadow details in areas of image that have low light for eg if the image as a dark alley or in areas of shadows.
the SPVA and AMVA lcds on the other hand can show deeper blacks and brighter whites at the same time without the need of dimming the backlight, their contrast levels or on par with best plasmas from panasonic.
if u look in the internet when one compares a plasma to a lcd,the lcd compared is most of the time a sony or samsung which have high native contrast like plasma.the lcds from panasonic,LG,hitachi, some philips and toshiba models doesn't stand a chance in the contrast department.

I HATE GLOSSY DISPLAYS,,,and it will be a well lit room,,,with tube lighting safely above the Tv,,,day-light wouldn't just creep in.would be more of an ambience, than a light itself...

Iam bit split on {less than HD} Plasma 42" or Full HD LCD 32":::

my take on 1024x768 plasma:
samsung PS42B430P2 or LG 42PQ30
similar specs-Lg has 16 bit color reproduction, sammy has 18 bit...
but actual experience is what i call for here..
I would prefer finer, better texture and warmer picture quality of plasma over the "pixel war" anyday.
But,Plasmas are not prevalent here...so Bragging advantage!
COST FACTOR due to inavailability is a nay say...coz I will get the LCDs at bit 1-2k bargain of website prices,,while plasma at that of website price
(website:the respective company URL)
but,,
Downside;adder said newer plasmas don't have burn-in,,life,,quality depreciating with time(lesser half-life)
but what if these models are actually old manufactured ones,,and just newly rebadged series name,,,please confirm on this...
bcoz,my dealer was provoking against plasma,,bcoz of lesser shelf life...But,I highly doubt his little knowledge,,and business instinct on selling what he has!!!

regarding plasmas the chances of burn in is still there but u have to try realy hard to get it.plasma do give out more glare then some lcds.all sony models have matte finish so glare is minimized.
the colors in plasma or lcd are very SUBJECTIVE varies from person to person, generaly samsung is know to have a slight edge in color department it also has the edge in contrast compared to LG.
also regarding FHD 32inch at 10 feet is a waste of money,u can't see the benefits of FHD unless u sit about 5 feet or less on 32inch.

my take on 1920x1080 LCD;
1.Samsung B530 or LG scarlet 2.0
or
2.Samsung p550 or LG JAZZ
The Leaning factor:
considering that my last CTV survived for like 19 years,,and I hope the newer one would go for 10-15 years,,,
THE 1080P content about which adder was saying,,about to come soon...
{but wasnt 3G also supposed to come long back.I agree in this case scenario is different,,and span of period is also quite long..)
But don't US channels display only 720p content as of now,,atleast that's what i get to download as of now!
and lastly,,Peace of mind,,considering the longevity factor,,,and future-resolution blitzkrieg;)

b/w the lg and samsung i would go for the samsung, but if u are looking at ur tv to last 10 to 15 years, well i am not sure about the future of plasma even in 5 years time,so i am not sure about support from 10years from now.
10years from now OLED would have taken over from lcds as the standard.

so in the 32inch lcds i would look at samsung B530 or the sony S550A(street price is around 43k),u can also buy them in the grey market cheaper by atleast 5k.

if its the plasmas well the no 1 leader and firm promoters of plasmas are panasonic so we may have better support in the long run.since their plasmas sell more then their lcds, unlike samsung and lg where their lcds sell more then plasmas.

With plasmas,I was only referring to their longevity,,and not, after sales support in the long run.because TV usage is quite minimal in our home!
But,As much as I wanted to buy a plasma because of the bigger screen and better picture quality,,after hearing comments of you guys.I guess I'll have to pass.

and 37" or bigger LCDs are outside my budget,so I will have to be content with 32" FHD only(FHD because, price difference between FHD and HD-ready is less, and mostly for Just-In-Case factor)
now,
As per recommendations,,Samsung LA32B530P7R suits my case ..
But,then how does it fare against Samsung LA32A550P1 ..
reading the spec sheet I saw that 550P1 had lesser contrast ratio,,and it was this model(550P1) whose "painted" kinda texture/fineness(specifically,the faces looked as if a lot of makeup had been put on to them)
that I disliked while watching SD content at my neighbour's house.
So,does the newer model wiz. B530 sacrifice even more fineness, shadow details to get a higher contrast ratio,,,or does it do with better image processor???

the main difference between B530 and A550A is the improved image processing in B530,it also has a newer 09 panel.so to sum it up B530 is better the A550.

so,I guess it's final then.
hey adder just saw your pm about 42" plasma,,do you still recommend it?

well i have told the pros and cons its upto u to decide which is good for u.
u won't go wrong with a plasma either.

and lastly,,

B550 is it worth the premium over B530 because I suppose the contrast difference between the two won't be much recognisable???

I have the LG Jazz 42 and it supports both divx and xvid through the usb port. I have had problems with some hindi xvid files, however never had a problem with any divx files so far.

One question, Can you view the DIVX movies through USB port?

Hi Guys, Hope you can help me here..I have been looking at sets for the past few week and think i am just getting my self more confused. I have narrowed it down to 2 sets. But really need help in choosing. They are both around the same price give or take €100.

The first is the Samsung LE46B550A5WXX. Was planning or getting this one untill i seen the Samsung UE40B6000VW-40 LED. I really want this TV but think i might be kicking myself over the lost 6" after a couple of weeks. Is the pic Quality that much better on the LED..Should i go for this one.

New to this so thanks for the advise to come..:)

well the LED luxia 6000 series doesn't offer any advantages in pic quality, but it does consume lesser power, but instead of the luxia 6000 u are better of with B650.
