@MAGNeT - Look for european version of PSP , u might get it here.
check out as u might be lucky to get 1.0 to 1.5 firmware.
Plz check on the firmware before you buy.
and dont upgrade the firmware to 2.0 , u might be knowing why

Also check the "Mumbai Mirror" one or days ago had info on PSP where to get
and softwares in the tech section of the paper.

Best of Luck.

Cost of PSP is 12500 & UMD is 2000 - 3000Rs

dont remember the shop will search for the paper and post it here.

Reg ur Mobile get the one which has Series 60 Symbian OS this will allow
you to install loads of softwares that are available for it.

There are exploits already for the firmware 2.0 so i guess you need not worry if you dont find a v1.5 but still the games are damn costly. Lowest i've seen is around 2.5k.

yup version 1.5 allows u to play games via memory stick or memory card whtever.......1gb or whtever.........i m gettin the files..........

sony has tried hard to stop umd disk copy feature since they r getting lot of buks on umd............my frnd also yesterday told me the same abt mumbai mirror........after cab net i stopped my newspaper......and the guy havin xams tomm...so unable to call him......

The PSP and I

Jaison Lewis talks about how he got his hands on his most prized possession, his PlayStation Portable...
Ihave been craving the PSP ever since I saw one in some trade show picture. Imagine a lovely little black device with a nifty little widescreen capable of playing movies and games. It was almost a year before I actually got to touch one. Mind you, I didn’t use it - I just got to touch it! That was at one of the stores in Heera Panna. The guy was asking around Rs 21,000 for it. I reluctantly gave him back the PSP and my lust brewed over the next few months. During that time, I went almost every week to Musafir Khana, checking the rates for the PSP, hoping that it would one day be in my budget of Rs 15,000.
That day happened last month…
The PSP was finally affordable at Rs 12,500. I quickly gathered my resources and set out to buy the PSP.

THE BUYING

There are basically three stores in Musafir Khana that sell console related gaming gear and games. My task was to find the best deal on the PSP and at least one game.
When I reached there, I found that there were two different versions of the PSP; a Japanese version and a European version. The Japanese version, according to the shopkeepers, would not be able to play UMD movies (Universal Media Disk) and the language would be Japanese, whereas the European version played UMD movies and came with a nice little demo disc.
But, there was a price difference: the Japanese version was priced at Rs 10,500 whereas the European version was an extra Rs 2000.
This required more research...
I headed back to office where I had access to the Internet; my unlimited resource on knowledge.
According to what I found, the Japanese version of the PSP could not play UMD movies because the movies were region coded - and as far as the language was concerned, there was a way to switch it to English. But since the whole movie thing really sucked, I decided to pick up the European version.
I also needed a game, and deciding on one was another task. After much thought, I settled on Midnight Club 3, which is a racing game where the player has a varied choice in vehicles; everything from sport cars to SUVs to bikes. Sounded like good fun!
Time to haggle. The vendor decided to sell the game to me at Rs 2,300, and the PSP at Rs 12,500 - a grand total of 14,800!
Haggling at Musafir Khana can be difficulty but I managed a discount of Rs 200. I also bought some extras: a plastic screen protector (the PSP screen is a fingerprint magnet), an additional battery pack (initial reviews of the PSP suggested a low battery life), and yes, portable speakers!
That put me down by another Rs 900. (I later regretted buying the external speakers for the PSP because they were awful.)

DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR PSP!

Now here is the sadder part: I bought the PSP version 1.0, but like an idiot, upgraded it to version 2.0. Big Mistake!
The upgrading of the firmware to version 2.0 makes sure you cannot play games off the memory stick (legally ripped off your copy of the UMD version of course), or run a p p l i c a t i o n s developed by third parties. This means no text editor, and no software to run old games like Super Mario Bros and other cool stuff floating online. These applications only run on version 1.0 or 1.5.

STUFF YOU CAN DO ON YOUR PSP

There is a lot you can do with your PSP. The device packs a nice 333 Mhz processor and is capable of playing MPEG 4 videos, MP3, ATRAC and picture files. For ATRAC however, you require software called Sonic Stage (available for free on the Sony Web site). And if you are a surfing buff, then the PSP also comes with a fully functional browser capable of connecting using Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is short for ‘wireless fidelity’ and is a term for a high-frequency wireless local area network (WLAN). Where can I find those?
Well amazingly enough I found out that almost every outlet of Barista has a Wi-Fi network, and also a lot of places like the station at Vashi have open WiFi networks; allowing any user to randomly connect and surf. And finally, you can also use the PSP for its main purpose, which is “play games.†By the way, the PSP will soon have a digital camera, a voice recorder and a keyboard attachment.

THE GAMING

The gaming bit on the PSP is FUN. The addition of Wi-Fi and game sharing make it very easy for people to play multiplayer using only one UMD. The controls are very intuitive and well placed. The sound reproduction: exceptional. The only problem I have is that the PSP heats up while playing games, and every once in a while, the UMD makes strange sounds.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED

All I can say as final words for the PSP is “It totally kicks donkey’s assâ€. And as I recently found out, it is available freely off the counter (officially) in several stores for a, shockingly high price of Rs 20,000. Games are also available for approximately Rs 3,000.
One thing though; while buying the PSP, make sure its firmware is either version 1.0 or 1.50. By the way I have yet to use the extra battery pack, the battery life of the PSP is actually very good. Expect distances and traveling time to shorten with this nifty little device.

okk i might b buying psp within a week i want to know is it compulsory to hav atlest 1 umd or wht??since it will set me 2-3 k bak............i was planning to get 1 gb memory stick...but if available 2gb.......but is it compulsory to hav atlest 1 umd????also how do i know its japanese or european version???

Yeah it is necessary to have atleast one UMD ! the language in the jap psp is set to japanese by default and another thing wud be is that the x and o key functions are interchanged. for e.g. x is the accept key in US/uk version while it is the back key in the jap version. for the mem stick well 1Gb memory stick duo can set you back by 7-8k !!

So total cost = 12.5 + 2.5k + 8k = 23k !! :O

wht...r u sure abt the 1gb memory stick price????????if so i better drop the plan to buy one....1gb wont b that big....i wanted ard 40+songs space and 2-3 games........xcept 1 umd....

I would suggest Alpha for buying the ps2. They have it ready for 12.5k for the US/UK version. With the psp value pack you get a PSP, AC adapter, battery pack, 32 MB Memory Stick Duo, earbud headphones with remote control, soft case and hand strap. There is a hard leather casing that costs around 800-900. No idea of the pricing for extra battery pack and screen protector.

Well 8k for 1Gb does seem a bit too much, you can try to look around for 2nd hand deals or good deals @ customs shops. The jap and Uk version look the same imo, you only know the difference once u power it on and use it.

For 2k you could squeeze in a 256Mb memory stick duo but i am sure it wont be of much use.

Ummm....with the difficulties associated withthe PSP, I guess I am better off playing the NES, GBC and Game Gear games (For Free :) :ohyeah: ) on their respective emulators on my phone ...

Eeeps..no flames please!!

O know that there is no compariing a GBC with a PSP but then I find that Super Mario Bros 3 is often more fun to play than a FarCry

Actually I watch DivX encoded movies on the phone too...but of course there is no comparing the PSP screen with my poor 176x208 pxl screen
