Hey guys,

I bought a Cooler Master X Dream K640 CPU Cooler for AMD X2 4200+ but need ur help regarding the performance of it.
It's speed range is 800-2800.

I used the stock fan earlier with Cooler Master HTK002 thermal compound which gave me a idle temp of around 30-32C and on load around 40C.

But when i removed that & attached this new one, the temperature at stock is around 35-38C & at load increases to around 48C.

The problem dat i identified was that the fan is running at 790-1200 rpm. This is because the fan will run full at 60C only. I also tried running it by attaching it to a molex connector directly instead of the CPU Fan Pin on the mobo. But it still runs at 800 rpm.

Can anybody give me an idea to run the fan at full speed at all times?

Kindly help me out.:(

Bye.

check the connector of the fan... if its 4-pin it means that its PWM which means that its speed varies with temperature.

there are softwares available which allow you to control the fan speed(dont have ne in my head right now).

It has a 3 pin connector for the motherboard but my mobo has a 4 pin. However it supports both 3 pin & 4 pin. It's PWM coz it has a thermistor which senses the temperature & the fan speed increases.

For example, when the pc boots, the fan runs at 790rpm but when i play games like COD4, the temperature increases & so does the fan speed to 1300rpm. But still the temperature hovers around 45 which is <40 while on stock fan.

So, I tried connecting the fan directly to a 3pin to 4 pin molex connector but still it runs at 790rpm. If the fan would run at full i.e. 2800rpm, it would be in it's full potential but not now & the fan really seems stupid as to it would reach full only at 60C.

And ya, i tried Speedfan but it detects the fan running at 100% and i am not able to increase the speed anymore.

Give me an idea as to how to run the fan at full speed. Thanks for the replies.

Bye.

Hook the fan up to a molex connector. You will get the fan to run at full speed. You need to connect the black and red (center) wire of the fan to the black and yellow of the molex.

Or try another fan header on the mobo, maybe that doesn't have speed control by the onboard fan controller.

Thanks for the reply. I had connected directly to a molex connector by using a 3 pin to molex connector. Now what is the wire funda, can u please clarify. I just fitted the molex connectors that's it. I don't think we can connect it in any other way.

Ya, and i tried the CHA Fan as well as PWR fan but it's the same boring 780 rpm.

The adapter works fine, ignore the wire funda.

Is it running at full speed when you connect it to a molex directly?

Edit: No, it does not. Your fan is built with the speed control internally. You're stuck, I'm afraid - unless you want to cut the stupid thing right off.

Hey,

If i cut the thermistor 2 wires, would the fan run at full speed. I doubt coz rather it would not sense the temperatures & just run at low speed. Isn't it?

How about taking the wires apart & connecting it directly to the molex with the lack to the black & the red to the +12V wire. Would dat work or are there any other workarounds?

Hey Sangram, thanks a lot for the reply. :)

I would surely try that out coz i was searching for a solution dat would work since so long and i am so delighted to see a solution. :D

I'll get back with the result.

Bye.

Hey Sangram,

Thanks a lot. Thanks thanks thanks. :hap2:

Now the fan is running at 3600rpm(But the max speed rated is 2800 rpm???) and here are the temperatures of my X2 4200+(slightly overclocked to 2450MHz) with the XDream K640:

Idle: 22C
Load: 31C

Compared to stock cooler performance as below:

Idle: 34C
Load: 45C

Yohoooo...

Bye.
