Hi All,

I will be in US for some months.

How do i transfer money from US to India. Got car loans, Credit Card EMI's, Insurance Premium's etc.

Also One more thing, I usually do online payments for my CC. No idea the offline. Got a HDFC and AXIS cards. For HDFC my dad and me both got accounts
so I think he can use his cheques with my CC no to pay. What can i do for AXIS. I dont have any signed cheques back home. I heard that we can
walk into any bank and pay the CC bill by cash. How?

Please let me know any easy ways.

Thanks.

AFA payment for axis card is concerned, your dad can pay it through hdfc cheques too and drop em to axis bank cheque dropbox

well... what about when they send messages to my phone? my phone is BSNL... :@

Well i have a Kerala Airtel too.

Like passcodes for transfer..and for ICICI the OTP.

btw my main bank account is ICICI. And Dad's main account is in HDFC. So basically to these banks i want to transfer.

If you want to transfer money to Indian bank account, use Money2India. I have been using this for the past 8 months. Very efficient service and minimal charges.

what about the exchange rates and charges when i transfer money?

Almost all banks provide services for transferring money to Inida with almost no transfer fees. Check the links I posted above, all the details incl exchange rates are given.

Update the Airtel number in the bank records (My friend had issues with BSNL when he moved to US, international roaming did not work) and you can receive all OTPs through SMS. Incoming SMS is free during international roaming too.

ICICI Money2India

Money Transfer:
Use Money2India as i found them to be the best and most convenient and i anyways have ICICI Bank account here in India.
Other options to explore are Remit2India, Xoom etc but i never tried there. Don't give your local US phone number on remit2india unless you are willing to use them. Else they will call you at random times asking when you will be making transfer and we have special rate and all such BS.
In ICICI Money2India, you don't have separate charges if you transfer above some XXXX $. Don't know exact amount, just check their website.

ICICI Bank OTP:
Is ICICI app available in your phone and are you registered for the mobile banking, if yes then you can still access your ICICI account on phone without OTP and all.
Note down last few transactions of your account (just keep it saved somewhere), note down your PAN number, bank account#, debit card issue and exp dates.
When you are actually using the ICICI bank website in USA and obviously you cannot OTP since i assume you don't have India mobile there or say the SMS is never received, just call the US phone number displayed on the same page where it asks OTP. Call them and tell you need OTP, they might ask some security questions and give you OTP.

India Calling:

Lots of options but Dial91 was working well for me. If you want a home phone landline + free India calling get the IP phone Vonage and such.

Insurance Premium
Can you register your insurance company (or is it car insurance?) as a bill pay in ICICI and pay them ? I used to pay LIC premium in this way.

Let me know if you need more information.

@varkey

International roaming and all works but there are many many times when you do not receive SMS messages. At least i have experienced this in Vodafone. I never got the Bank messages in international roaming. Neither OTP.

One thing... My airtel Kerala connection. Will it be on international roaming automatically? Or should i call them or something?

Prepaid ? If yes then mostly it will go on international roaming automatically. Also ensure you recharge it every couple of months and make a single 1 min or less local US call using that number to keep it operational. I did not do that and lost my number. It was airtel only.

I have experienced trouble using ICICI's online banking abroad. Partly my fault, partly their stringent rules. They send an OTP on 'suspicious' behaviour, and I had not activated my postpaid for international roaming, so I wasn't getting any messages. I had to find a way to connect back to India and do the work.

That's why they have these local country number for the more prominent countries where you can call and ask for OTP.

US Dollar to Rupee Exchange Rates - Live

I personally use the money transfer service that comes with my Wells Fargo bank account. They have a tie up with ICICI which means transfers are instantaneous. The rates are generally decent, not the best, but not bad either. They have a flat $5 fee per transaction with a maximum of $5000/- allowed per day.

i'm currently in abroad for a shorter trip... and i use ICICI bank online with the help of i-safe appliction.. so no issues with OTP. Also if you've registered and activated for mobile application..then that will continue to work in abroad even if you change the sim card. Like wise i use axis mobile, sbi mobile and icici mobile banking too without any issues. All my EMI, CC bill are paid from here itself ofcourse all my expenses here i use citi CC and pay CC bill by using Axis mobile.
