Hi, my 10 yr old ifb washing machine conked out, and company folks said motor is gone, and since model is obsolete now, cannot get parts.
If any one in this forum has any contacts or links to source motor (even 2nd hand is fine), pls pm me.
Model : ifb admiral 7012w

Try the local electrical shop or even Urban Company. I got my IFB Microwave switch circuit board repaired via UC as the idiots did not cover it in the warranty and the company replacement was costing too much.

How can a motor just conk off. Did you try replacing brushes or is the winding shorted.

Check the second hand repair store for discarded front load washing machine motors. If the motor as the same mount option. Just swap the pulley to the same size. You may have a slight difference in rpm if the specs are different. In most cases a 10 year machine will have a universal brushed motor which can work on both AC and DC.

You can get it replaced from a electrical shop with a local made motor in exchange of this one along with some money.
I have done it here in faridabad....my old whirlpool motor got burnt...got a local one for 300 + exchanged the burnt one.

Ifb told motor conked out, and not sure if its really that. No i did not do anything of that sort.

First they told no spares available, then i explained to them that any appliances sold by them comes with 10yr part support.

Then they told me replacement motor will cost 5k. I a said fine. The next day they come back and say it will cost 7 to 10k, and tell me to buy a new machine, they will give 20% discount on mrp[emoji2357].
One model is 38990 mrp on ifb, same model is 33k on amazon.

No mechanic is interested in repairing old one. They simply refuse to come. They say ifb spares they wont get.

Most repair men these days are lazy. Those who take a effort to repair them will be unwilling to do so at customer premises. Since they have to search for spares from either company or from a salvaged machine.

Spending 7 to 8k for a motor is not worth it. Bearings, shocks, seals etc will need to be replaced at about the 10 year mark. These will cost another 3k or so.

found this video -
the machine is Gorenje , i found this when i googled for TYPE PS23/120 as seen in the pic in my first post. the machine looks same, including the stickers on the left side. Trying to get hold of a guy who can dismantle the motor and check the carbon brushes. fingers crossed.

Thats the same motor brand and brush type in my 2008 whirpool.
I ordered the brushes from uk during covid and got them in 2 weeks by post and fixed them myself.

But since you don't even know whether its the really the motor problem Or if the motor contacts are bad or is the board working fine.

Why not remove the back cover and observe if the motor is spining/sparking check the brushes.

You have nothing to loose.

If motor spins, then the drum should also spin, that's not happening.
Now i will try to check the brushes.

I had opened the back door earlier (a guy from hyd wanted pics) found black sooty powder . So i guess that would have come from the carbon brushes.

Carbon around the motor is common, the question is how much carbon brush is left. If its worn down all the way. The spring holding the carbon brush will uncompress and this cause the brushes to be loose in contact with the motor commutator which causes arcing and the heat generated due to this will delaminate the winding and the contacts.

Can you share the link of the website from where you got the carbon brushes, just want to see how it looks.

Just because this fit my motor doesn't mean it will fit yours. You need to see the orientation of the carbon brush which side has raised side and not to mention the physical appearance of yours vs this. Since some may have a raised side( the brush contact area) in left and some have it on the right.

.
Exactly same tactic was adopted by these IFB idiots when they came for the microwave. I told them to FO. I have decided not to buy any IFB since then.

10 yrs is kinda pushing it with any brand. Only 3rd party people will be able to repair it if they are interested.

Do you work for IFB ? If yes, then you should stop touting this -
I see the number 10. OP already said 10 yr old machine.

Now what is your point ?
In any case, I have never found a "service engineer" just pushing for sales instead of doing what they are supposed to do, for any brand except this one.
Are you kidding me ? Both the 'demo' guys who came from my LG washing machine & Fridge were doing just that. Pushing unnecessary things.

The issue with IFB and why i stayed away from them is any service was a pain with them. Given the number of complaints i saw online.

I did not realize I needed to spell it out but then..

If you are confident enough to offer a 10 year warranty on a motor, how is that "pushing it". No, it is simply what I should get with my product. And definitely not for a technician to come and tell me first that spares are unavailable, as the OP said.

This and, in my case, it was not a product demo and its not about the racks, covers or stands which everyone tend to sell.
In my case, the microwave was 14 months old. They took 5 minutes to check what was wrong, and the first thing they said was a new switch board will be needed but you should rather consider exchanging this for a new microwave as we have a good offer running.
So no, I am not really kidding you.
In any case, you are right when you say that third parties are better when it comes to service and repairs, at least in this case.
