Hi,

I am planning on returning my HYNIX DDR-400 lame ram back and getting some good quality RAM.

So please some suggestions. Within $(10,500/43) please......... Thanks. I am not a overclock freak but A SPEED FREAK!!!! So nice timings.......

Also I getting a new monitor, size = 19". Got any suggestions, Philips Flat 19" ? Samsung 955D? I read bad reviews about the Samsung monitor........

Cheers,

Karan

MB: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum-SLI

CPU: AMD San Diego 4000

PS: Is the SD Multi unlocked? And how is the Neo4 for overclocking?

If you are not going to overclock, get the patriot 2GB kit(2-3-2-5 latencies at DDR400) or the OCZ Platinum(both infineon BE-5) which has the same latencies but is more expensive. The crucial value ram sticks will do 2.5-2-2-5 normally at DDR400 for 99% of the sticks and clock quite nicely as well though they are rated at 3-3-3 by SPD. Some can even manage 2-2-2 but there is no guarantee for either. The 4000+ multi is unlocked down so u can use lower multipliers however u cant use higher multipliers. For higher multipliers, u need an FX series chip. Neo4 is quite good for overclocking as long as u dont require too much voltage. (Thats the case with crucial... higher voltage actually is detrimental for the 5BD chips). My pick - crucial value as its cheap and overclockable. For the record, my stick of value does 275 3-3-3 memtest error free for 2 hours.

Thanks man..........

Ok some more trouble for u guys....... my DDR has this written on its Chips:

HY5DU12B22BT-D43

I decoded the serial number and I got:

hynix, ddr, vdd = 2.5v, vddq = 2.5v, density = 512Mbit, refresh = 8K, org = x8, bank = 4, interface = sstl_2, 3rd gen, TSOP, speed = ddr-400 3-3-3

So it is rated 3-3-3 at 200 Mhz. If i want to overclock my amd 4000+ SD to like 2.8 Ghz (FX-57 level) what do I have to do, and will my RAM take it? Will it help if I use dividers to set RAM Hz to ~ 200Mhz ? Please be detailed...... thanks....... If some expect can give me MSN I want to ask some questions. If I had the board, I wouldnt have so much confusion.

Thanks.

Karan

PS: What about monitor guys? I want to be able to use 1600x1200 at min 85Hz with focus. Budget around 12-13K.

Well that RAM is rated at 3-3-3 @ 200MHz as u said. Most DDR memory is rated at 200 MHz other than TCCD/TCC5. If you overclock, you can always use dividers to run the RAM at a reduced frequency. High density D43 chips don't overclock at all. So the max you can expect out of it is 210MHz. So if you use dividers to get to that, ur current ram will work. However bandwidth and overall performance will suffer. Currently Micron 5BD is the king of high density chips with samsung UCCC close behind. Some Infineons BE-5/CE-6 clock rather good as well however its more hit and trial than the rest. For monitor, get a philips or samsung 19" CRT. You wont be able to do 85Hz @ 1600 but u'll get 75Hz @1600 which is good enuf IMO. If you want 85Hz, u'd need to get a 20 or 21" with higher video bandwidth (costs around 20-22K).

As for RAM, Crucial Value or Ballisiix.

Corsair Value RAM isnt a bad pick too. 3-2-2-5 timings i think.

GEt a nice LG or Samsung CRT 19". Their higher end models support 1600.

Ok guys......... I need some more advice.........

I did some major ****ups in configuring my PC. I should have gotten the DFI NF4 UT SLI-DR instread of (zzz) MSI NEO4 PLAT-SLI. I should have gotten Crucial Ballistix instead of (zzz) HYNIX D43. And a Venice 3500 instead of blowing money into SD 4000.

Anyways, is Semtronics (or is it Samtronics) memory any better? Pls comment.

Waiting,

Karan

Look, abt the mem part, go according to Chaos' suggestion...

And for the CPU, you have already bought it. So no use crying now. But the SD is definitely better. You probably could have saved money by buying a SD 3700+.

Dude, youre too hard on urself. An SD 4000+ was a perfect buy. I Saw ur price list too, not a bad price.

MSI NEO4 is fine. Its very good.

Just get better ram. Thats your only ****up.

By no means an MSI board is crappy... Hell its one of the best boards if you are not planning to overclock *a lot*... It has got creative onboard chip along with other features... You are not planning to overclock so 4000 is better... Yes you can help yourself with better Ram... Rest all is *perfect*...

Now dont be a crybaby and buy a good cabby... What abt that... What are you getting...

Hmm........ I really really should hv come here.

I would have opted for 2xRAPTOR 36 GB 10k RAID-0 as system drive and any 2 other drivers as data drive. But i went ahead and purchased 2 120 GB 7.2K drivers.

My MSI is SLI. I think that is gonna be wasted cause when I upgrade next year (dec maybe) the M8 socket Marchitecture would be In and probably a lot would have changed. Just my 7800gtx and hdd, psu, cabby would survice the upgrade. Rest all would require overhaul.

PLEDGE to self: NEXT TIME AROUND.... get DFI !!!

Neways, I am undecided about the cabby. Super Lanboy or CM Stacker? I was looking for a price around 3k - 4k. Any suggestions. I want to go in for a full tower cabinet. I am not so much towards looks. Just good features and air flow. And possibly a easy carry strap on the top of the cabby.

Monitor: Now decieding between PHILIPS and Samsung 997D.

Can anyone tell me what Refresh rate will I get at 1600x1200 on either of these monitors?

Cheers,

Karan

Well use the 120 gb * 4 well.

I dunno what ull use it for but whatever :P.

1 120 GB for system.

The other 1 for Apps.

Another one for Games.

And the last one form Music? Oh wait you dont listen to much, porn then?

Well if you are getting the cabbies from india both are over your budget. 5.5k for superlanboy without psu and around 9.5-10k for the stacker. Abroad the Slanboy is well within your budget.
