hi!
i will be buying a drive to dump data
capacity--1tb
brands i will choose from--seagate/western digital
pricing----for both??

dvd writer and price-- preferably sony(non oem)

anti virus for windows 7(single user)----which one to buy?
norton 2010/kaspersky 2010

any other recommendations will be welcomed!

Both Seagate and WD are around 4K. The difference between WD and Seagate will be around 200 bucks (Seagate is cheaper). WD drives a bit slower - but for data backup they are adequate and many now favour WD after the recent failures of the Seagate 500 GB drives. Although Seagate 1TB drives are much much better than the 500 GB drives. Also keep in mind the WD service - it is not anywhere comparable to Seagate.

Go for a Sony/Samsung/HP DVD-RW. All are good and should cost you around 1200 bucks.

You can get a KIS 2010 single user for around 300 bucks (3 user for 575) from TE market section. Nothing beats that.

bought me a seagate 1tb 7200.12 drive for 3950rs and a sony oem dvd writer sata+22x @ 1150 today!

should have bought non oem drive or atleast 24x drive.coz oyu do not save anything 4rm it. Samsung (Boxed) @22x would have been a better option.

i dont like samsung(unreliable) and the dealer had nothing else other than oem drives.

i didnt want an oem drive---had to take wht i got.

my samsung is still working fine for 2 years now. i felt it had gone bad but still is working. and the Sony oem drives are not reliable. the company (sony)gives 90 days warranty and dealer will gives a year warranty. so you know what i mean.
