@OP please do not drink and drive .I saw a gruesome accident in NZ .A 10 year old boy was killed by a drunk driver .Never mix both of them ,you are putting some one else's life at risk .You don't have a right to do that.
You know this is something that will take some time to hammer into indian heads. In the west the laws tend to be tight enough that nobody sane will even risk it. Fines, points off license, which means higher insurance premiums in the future that never come down for the same cover. If you ever get caught with an open bottle in the car by a cop, you're in even bigger trouble.

Here its another thing altogether, if you cannot drink & drve then there is something wrong with you :(

The law in India has to become even strict they should ban the person from driving and not suspending licenses.Wish that day would come .
You would think the current system is an improvement over the past. But there is no way to show this until we see some past & post data to make an analysis.

Hahahaha!!! Even without a breath analyzer, one can separate a drunk person from a lot of sober individuals!! :P
Well, it takes me an hour to break down a drink and get legal. Finish a drink, wait an hour then legal. Have two drinks, wait two hours etc.

According to you, i'd still be guilty if a cop has a bloodhound nose.

Course this is where those spray breath freshners come into play ;)

Yes, the guy can still charge you if it is <= 30mg. I have seen such cases happen especially during the No Drink & Drive Weeks that Mumbai RTO organises from time to time.
ok

But I doubt that the breath analyzers we use are efficient enough to catch very low traces of alcohol.
They don't have to be, if they detect nothing you're free to go.

But then the officer has all authority to prepare a medical memo and send you to the nearest Municipal hospital for a blood test. But again, this would be a case if he is hellbent upon landing you in trouble.
yeah and he's just doing his job, best not to give him any attitude :(

As for 30mg being very low, like I said, the Act is practically silent. So, 30mg can be both too low or too high depending upon the situation you land up in.

And in any case, this is India, we need to keep that fact in Mind.
They set the limit low because indians cant handle as much booze as westerners, its to do with our bodies. On average we're skinnier and more underfed compared to them.

But 2.5 times lower, damn, that's really rubbing it in :@

the low alcohol limit set maybe concerned with alcohol content of medicinal drugs.

cough syrup contains alcohol too and it would be lame if you are found guilty because of a cough syrup.

If a corporate is thrown into jaul for Drinking and Driving by the judge(say a day with fine), How does it affect his job?I mean, ahs it happened to anyone that a company fired someone coz a polie case was filed or he was in jail, so he is not fit tobe in the company?I heard even the passport can get cancelled sometimes.Any proof of this?

I am not sure about corporates but in the Govt. companies, the moment you are arrested for any reason whatsoever, there is a great likelihood that your organisation suspends you pending inquiry!!

I don't think corporates would be that bothered about the personal life of employees... They just expect you to do your work well and on time. Hell, they might even send your laptop and data card to jou in your jail cell just so that you don't delay the company business!!! :P

Drunk Driving is covered by Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

It says this:

Sorry... :S

Do you mean to say Vehicle Headlight Modifications as covered by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988??

I have no knowledge about the exact provisions for Headlight Modifications as such but I guess Section 52 of M V Act is relevant in this regard.

It says This:

Alteration in motor vehicle

No owner of a motor vehicle shall so alter the vehicle that the particulars contained in the certificate of registration are at variance with those originally specified by the manufacturer.

Halogens are allowed and xenons are not...

xenons should be banned if not already. They will temporarily blind and compromise visibility of the incoming traffic.

Who said Xenons and not allowed?? Most Bimmers and Mercs come with Xenons...

Maybe you mixed up between genuine HIDs (Xenons) and the cheap knock off Blue lights that are popularly sold as Xenon Bulbs....

Actually, Xenons come as an assembly complete with the HID lamps and the Ballast. And I personally feel that they are much more easy on the eye.
