man if u need good keyboard there are only two choices

1.tvs -> this is expensive(rs.1000). it has a mechanical built , thus the key's response is good but it will be a bit noisy. also it is built to last. ideal for heavy usages(such as a net-cafe)

2. logitech-> this is most reliable brand worldwide.model start from 300(check out latesht prices).it has film based built , thus is much quieter.i have personally used them for last 10 years without any complaint. gofor the simplest model with spill resistance features.

ps- word of advice ->

1. never use multimedia keyboards. they need extra drivers which are often buggy and v poor quality also these drivers are seldom updated. they have known to cause issues with some games and nvidia/ati drivers.

2. try to stay away from usb keyboards and prefer ps2 ones. why
a. usb eats cpu
b. it will have difficulty in accessing bios(usb keyboards needs drivers which are loaded by os)
c. all the mobos have a keyboard ps2 port, why waste one usb port when there is no performance improvement.(usb keyboard and mouse are only recommended for lappys)

Dude... U're very funny..

1. Not necessary.. I use all my MM buttons on my Microsoft KB w/o installing the s/w. S/W perhaps aid in the OSD.. Same with logitech..

2. USB eats cpu.. Yeah rite.. Hw much cpu is it eatin???
Most of 'em prefers USB to PS2 due to d useful plug-n-play feature in addition to d plethora of user-defined key combos n d likes..

U're reqd to restart the pc if u disconnect a PS2 mouse or KB in case of a PS2...

Then why cant manufacturers still stick to PS2 fer making high-end mouses n KBs???

I'd suggest, get a SAMSUNG pleomax or a logitech..

First pay a visit to the nearby comp shop n choose fer urself...

hello gannu rox. a healthy debate is always welcome.

1. usb will always eat cpu. that is made into usb standard itself. now what you are saying is that it will use small(very small if u take present core 2 proccys). well u are right, but when u can save an overhead(when that overhead can be done without) and u save money in process(ps2 is always cheaper than usb mouse) then WHY NOT?????

2. yes for high end u must go usb way because usb devices can be programmed for any use(printer/pen drive/even speakers and moniters). but but the guy asked for "nothing too fancy , less than 500 bucks"
i think he regards peace of mind above than and few more multimedia keys.

3. pulling out a ps2 device(keyboard/mouse) needs pc shut down and that is a serious setback. but that is a mouse not a pen drive that u have to pull in and out every time u use it!!!! come on man tell me how many times a sane man would need to change his keyboard in a single day ????

4 and u forgot that bios thing . many mobos will not support bios editing by usb keyboard. even if they do it would need some bios tweaking that too done via ps2 keyboard. during that time usb plug and play functionality will be thrown out of the window.

last but not the least "each personal computer supports and WILL support ps2 for a long time to come"

usb is for greater functionality . but sometimes a thing working just right is more in demand than better functionality .
one more thing and probably the most important thing-> when ur computer hangs or a misbehaving app takes over ur pc and it becomes unresponsive , then "ALT-CTRL-DEL" will work much better in a ps2 keyboard than a usb one. this is what has been found on experience . usb will not respond at that time because cpu is already busy(due to an hanged os).
u need to pay a price going the usb way!!!

Samsung for 1 yrs only (I had 2 keyboards which exactly died on 365th days)

Logitech with me with other system from June 2004 yet works like charm.

Trust me go with Logitech Standard Model (up to 400/-)

Samsung like Laga to teer nahin to fakhir

yeah i have narrowed it down to logitech & pleomax..
but there are so many models to choose from..they all seem good

so if u cld sggst particular models from both brands(which are available) & its price,it would be easy for me to decide..

and im really keen on havin a few extra buttons like power, standby, volume control etc. if possible

and budget is a max. of 500 bucks...nothin more!

thnx.

We're going a bit off topic, but that is an unsubstantiated claim. I have an Intel DP35PM mobo that has 6 rear USB ports, but zero PS2 ports. Check it in the link below

Intel® Desktop Board DP35DP Overview

Most P35 chipset based mobos have only a single PS2 port, and it seems likely future mobos will drop it entirely

Hey, I've got that exact keyboard in white. Oh and it's wireless....part of my Ex-111 wireless keyboard and mouse combo.

What are your thoughts on the one you have? The keys are a little shallow on mine but the keyboard is ok. I'm satisfied with mine. I'm a casual gamer and it works good enough for my other uses. Plus, I use a laptop at work so the even though I feel that this keyboard is smaller than a regular keyboard, I'm able to use it ok.

Edit: I see that you have the caps lock, scroll lock, num lock lights in the center of your keyboard...I don't have those. Dang....I donno why they mess with the keyboard design everytime. I wish mine had lights too.

the keyboard is great,soft touch..

all the extra mm buttons are uber kewl & useful too!

luv it.

hope it lasts for many years to come..touchwood!

Yupp...the MM buttons are useful. I especially use the volume buttons. Damn useful. And ya, the buttons are soft touch on mine too.
