Hi All,

I am new to this forum and I am from chennai. I need a proper advice for my problem.

I am owning a HP media center PC which was supplied with nvidia geforce 7500LE. Recently the card was burnt. So i thought of upgrading it to 9600GT which requires a minimum power supply of 400Watts. My system is currently having 300watts only. So i thought of upgrading SMPS as well. But HP told me that you can go upto 450 or 460watts SMPS upgrade. I am in a confusion to select zebronics or cooler master SMPS. I heard that both are good manufacturers. Can anyone guide me please? Thanks for your help in advance.

My System Specifications:
Processor : C2D E4400 (2.0 GHz)
Mother board : ASUS P5LP-LE (Leonite - 2)
RAM : 2 GB of DDR2 (667 MHz)
GPU : xfx Geforce 9600 GT

For 9600GT a Corsair 400W should be sufficient for a media center...
Or if u wanna get something cheaper, get the CM460...:)

Though i always prefer Corsair over CM...:P

well if u plan on adding anymore components to this rig in the future then better find out and get the corsair vx450w or even vx550. it will let you use
the rig for a long time and even if you plan to game it will support almost all midrange cards enough.. this am suggesting because of the generous allowance
for the power supply(7k thats high end dude:hap2: ).
later u can add just abt all midrange cards and lots of components etc etc...
if it is an end of the line rig... ie planning to buy a new one rather than upgrade this then just buy off the coolermaster(plz stay away from zebby, not exactly bad but why take chances)..
then buy the 9600gt.
but honestly i would suggest an ati 4670 or 4830 depending on what is ur budget. moreover if u go for coolermaster its enough for even 450w.. considering it is either a 9600 or 4670...
happy buying..

Man, u don't need to invest 7000 on the PSU...

U have a HP Media Center PC and how much can u upgrade in that...Is the cabinet good. I bet it will not...Better go for a Corsair 400W and it will be sufficient for the 9600GT...

Or if u have so much money that u have to spend, get a HD4850 and a Corsair VX450 for ur budget...:P
Belive me this is a good investment than the first one...And u won't have to upgrade for quite a while...

Else buying a 7k PSU for just the 9600GT is sheer wastage...:bleh:

Yes. The cabinet is good and HP recommends that i can upgrade upto 460Watts at max. I know that this is my limit. So need to go with it. :| In cooler master one model is suiting my requirements. The 9600GT requires external power connector and 26amps on +12V rail. But the volts are splitted into +12V1 and +12V2 with 18amps on each. Will this be suitable to run 9600GT in my system?

Model # RS-460-PMSP-A3

I have given the link below. Could anyone suggest whether it is ok and able to run 9600GT without any issues? I will not overclock the card.

Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply

^Can't you buy and upgrade it on your own ? Why are you going with hp?

btw, That Cooler Master Rs 460 watts cost not more than 2.4k in chennai. How much is hp charging you (or say robbing you ) ?.

The problem is My computer is under warranty for one more year. I am going to get the parts myself and going to ask them to fix it as it is covering under warranty.

Get the PSU, fit it urself...Don't inform HP. :)
If in case u ever need warranty, change the PSU and take out the card before calling them up... :)

I did this like thrice in 2 years of my warranty...:P
