Need urgent help

Need to upgrade a unlocked and perfectly working to 1.1.3/1.1.4 ASAP
With the tonnes of guides/tuts and multiple methods floating around, it will take me hours to figure out the best way yo go about it....
What's the current best method to go about it?

From the words of Tracerbullet from The Definitive iPhone Thread:

If it's firmware 1.0.2 then you'll have to revirginise its baseband before you do a restore to 1.1.4 in iTunes. So here's what you do:

First download the latest 1.1.4 iPhone update. Here's the link: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...0226.Sw39i/iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw

Next, download ziphone 3.0 from ZiPhone's Blog go to the advanced section in the program and choose the 'erase BL3.9 baseband' option. This will basically erase the 1.0.2 baseband on your v3.9 bootloader phone.

After doing this open iTunes and connect the phone. In the iPhone section, press shift and hit the restore button if you're on a PC or option + restore if you're on a mac. iTunes will then ask you to locate the firmware you want to install on the phone. Browse to the 1.1.4 file you just downloaded and let iTunes do its thing. This process should take about 10 minutes max.

After the restoration has been done, the iPhone should be an unactivated, un-jailbroken, and locked 1.1.4 iPhone with BL3.9. Close iTunes now and don't bother if it pops up again later on. Open Ziphone 3.0 once again and select the 'Do It All' (i.e. Jailbreak + activate + unlock) option on the main page. As mentioned earlier, iTunes might pop up saying it detected a phone in recovery mode etc. but don't bother about it.

Ziphone will take approximately 5 minute to do the whole process. After it's done, insert your SIM card and enjoy!

You can also try with iliberty.. as ziphone has a snag where the bootloader cannot be reversed if something goes wrong with the 3.9 version as its a fake BL. Iliberty or Ibrickr 0.91 are two other options.. all the three are simple as you dont really have to do anything but just follow the onscreen instructions..
In case if the iphone gets stuck at root# screen with the error IOIpodStack prompt.. verry rare case but very scary as the phone gets into a loop even after you restart it. On top of that .. the phone will not get detected by any USB/itunes/hacking software to free it(DFU/recovery mode will not work either!!!) ..
Fret not cuz i got a resolution to that.. it happens with Ziphone.. Will give you the resolution if you happen to get that error. I just upgraded to 1.1.4 from 1.1.3 without any hitch with the help of iliberty..

If it's 1.1.1 then do a simple restore in iTunes to 1.1.4. Of course, download the file from advance and press SHIFT + Restore in iTunes. Then open ZiPhone and select do it all. Voila :) The whole process shouldn't not take you more than 10-15 minutes.

Basically, revirginisation is only required if you're upgrading from an unlock 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 and above. That's because, back then the iPhone Dev Team used a different sort of unlock for 1.0.2 this caused bricking of iPhones if people upgraded without revirginising their basebands.

I just did a 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 upgrade a couple of weeks back for a phone i unlocked last year.

As TC said, restore to 1.1.4 in iTunes and unlock with ZiPhone.

[OT]What's a good SMS app for 1.1.4? As in with forward et al? Cause iSMS keeps crashing.[/OT]

8 GB iphones are virtually out of stock.. but if you are lucky enuf.. you might get an unlocked piece for 26k minimum.. last update from Heera panna, mumbai.. high costs because of the new 3G iphones( 16gb and 32gb variants) coming out.. the current version of iphones are meant to be phased out now..

iSMS works totally all right for me. I'm on 1.1.4 too. What version are you using? Use the snapshot edition 05291450.

what are the popular data plans like now? when i left, the major carriers had removed their relatively cheap unlimited data plans.
