Need Some Advise Regarding Sony and Apple

Hi Guys,
frist of let me express my joy in finding this site again! After my windows crashing I lost all my bookmarks and cusnt rem the site name:S Finally after the numerous google search I found it :clap:

Anyways I wanted to know that I m going to buy a notebook very soon and my budget is around 50 to 55 k and to me perforamcne as well as style matters.

The only two notebooks I really flipped over which was in my budget were the Sony Vaio (celeron) and the Apple 12 inch ibook G4. Now I have my doubts abt the apple servcie here and if G4 is a good buy?Everyones telling me abt the different OS and how I would expereince problems. Or should I stick to the Sony Vaio VGN -FJ66GP/W?? Im not agamer and my needs at the maximun would be the basic usage and photoshop cos im doing phootgraphy at the side.
Also what would be the best place to buy the notebooks in delhi? Would Nehru place offer competitive prices compared to the showrooms?

Why are you buying an ibook? You ought to get a Powerbook G4 12-inch at the same price. My advice is that you go for that. In terms of style it beats anything else around. And regarding performance, since general use (by which I'm assuming internet work, and MS Office or Apple equivalent) and Photoshop are your priorities, the powerbook should be perfect. Apple has traditionally been preferred with imaging and design anyhow.

If you can't find a powerbook within that price, then pick up the ibook, but for a lower price. I think 50k's too much. I knew someone getting rid of a second-hand ibook for 20ish. But the deal's done now.

Depends on what you want... Do you need windows or can do without it? If not, get the ibook or better still wait a month or two for the new macbook based on intel. With apple switching to intel, G4 macs don't have much of a future. Sony Vaios are overpriced for what you get... other than the fact that they are small, sexy looking and light there's not much in it. The new compaq presarios are way better.

Hi I can definately do without windows The only software i uses is microsfot office,photoship,limewire,etc etc.

tracerbullet I wanted to ask whr can i get a powerbook from the kind of prices u saying?The mac centre in ansal plaza quoted 94,000 for the 12 inch powerbook!

Let me kn if thrs someone who can give me a sweet deal and another thing if i tell sum1from the US to get it for me , do i have to pay the customs or its duty free now??

Well the customs rules are like this... Officially, you can carry one laptop with u when u come to india without paying customs, though many ppl in my company have successfully brought in two or more with them. Also you are allowed 25K of goods and 2 big packets of cigarettes and 2 bottles of whisky . Yes thats whats written on the customs leaflet that you are supposed to get stamped at the immigration counter :rofl:. If you can get hold of someone who is associated with a US university, you can get apple stuff for dirt cheap... apple has some serious educational discounts.
