Check out the Panasonic Tz8. Will be approx 16k. Good feature set for the price.

I own a panasonic FZ35@18k (now 15k at ebay) and it's worth the price I paid.... I'll suggest you to go for FZ100/FZ40, I have seen some good reviews for them..
