Hi friends, I've very little knowledge about 3G. I'm looking forward to get a 3G Solution. I'm from Kolkata(West Bengal).

So should I consider buying...

1. BSNL 3G SIM(as BSNL is the only 3G provider here now with affordable prices) and a Huawei 3G Modem??

2. 3G USB Sticks provided by Vodafone or other providers??

Can anyone please clear some confusion?

1. How does 3G SIM works with 3G Modems(like Huawei)?? Can I use that sim in my phone for calling and sms'ing??

2. I guess 3G USB sticks are only for accessing internet, and I can't use that in my phone. Right??

3. Solutions like BSNL EVDO, Tata Photon, MTS MBlaze, Idea Netsetter are not 3G solutions. Is that right??

But MBlaze, Netsetter advertise as 3G, how's that possible?? 3G is not available yet.

1.same as your phone. But since the modems are self usb powered the chances with mobiles like battery overcharging, discharging are nullified.
2. These usb sticks use a normal sim to work. So for them to work you need to insert the sim to your 3g enabled phone for your 3g services.
Some modems do allow calling through pc.
3. Mts and other evdo services are based on cdma technology which are limited to speeds upto 3.1mbps whereas some 3g operators are going to launch hspa+ services on gsm networks so speed can be maximum upto 28mbps etc.

^^Thanks for clearing the queries :)

So that Vodafone 3G USB stick comes with 3G SIM bundled to access internet only??(Like other data sticks/cards)

Can I use the SIM on my phone too?? I think the SIM is locked inside it. Isn't it??
