Hey Guys,

like the thread title says, I want the best quality IEM in this range. It would be helpful if USB soundcard/amp is also in the range.

not to sound like noob but are the IEM okey to use with portable device?

Thanks In Advance

Max_demon, what do you use now? Do you have a portable player? Is this for home use? What kind of music do you listen to?

Im having Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi with my iphone and EP630 with my laptop, but i feel somewhat that the quality can be better like a full speaker system.

and listening while commuting in bus/train mostly. so need to block outside ambit noise. and it must not loose my ears normally (means that it should not take itself automatically ) (i aint gettin correct term but i think u get wat i mean)

and i listion to instrumentals, and classic music mostly.. sometimes alternative rock.

max demon, Get a nuforce udac for use with your laptop. For the rest of the money, you could look at getting an IEM in the 100$ bracket like the Hifiman RE Zero, Brainwavz M3, Xears TD 100-III etc. The iPhone is a pretty good source. In case you want a dedicated portable player, Clip+ as suggested by the Jolly guy above :) would do great.

TF10 for 7k is a good deal. The TF10's being triple driver balanced armatures don't require an amp.

If you must spend the additional 3k, get a Sansa Clip and call it the day.

Your iPhone is pretty much sufficient, you may want to purchase a Clip+ for extra portability.

What all did you like and didn't like in your MetroFi 220vi in terms of sound? What changes would you want?

I feel that bass is too much and the vocals are not much clear

I think its better to have a dedicated portable player

so deciding on TF10 and sansa clip without amp :-? is it okey?

If this is an issue you might find it with the TF10 as well, a lot of bass and despite what anyone might say, the mids are recessed!

with a TF10 Bass quantity and quality both will be there, tight bass, wont be too boomy, Music with No bass will be flat, and at the same time huge quantity of bass with no quality is also bad, which i guess must have been the case with MetroFi 220vi, which even i slightly felt when i tried my friends MF220 like 6-7 months ago, let me see if i can do a A-B comparison for you

But again with a TF10 you need a good seal, if not then you wont like them

Mids are slightly recessed yes, but i used a silver shadow cable and the mids did turn forward slightly, but the overall presentation is awesome, that is exactly why almost every one in the Elite Audiophile fraternity retain them,

In case if you want a balanced sound with not much of bass then try one of the RE offerings from Head direct, and yes they will need ample amping

so what i would suggest is , Try different options mentioned here yourself, Music is subjective so is a person's taste, changes from time to time, so unless you try it you wont know whats best for you

If that is the case then do not go for TF10, you wont like it.
