I am almost full to existing 250GB storage, struggling to make space day in and day out:banghead:.
Need to increase @1 TB min.
My rig are,
  • Processor = Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2 GHz) Box Proc.
  • Motherboard = Intel D945GCNL Original Mother Board
  • Chasis / SMPS = Micro ATX - Mini Tower Case, I ball, Pride model
  • System Memory= 1 GB DDR2 RAM-Transcand
  • Hard Drive= 250 GB SATA Hard Drive - Seagate
  • Optical Drive= 20x SATA DVD Writer - Sony
  • Graphics= Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  • Output= 19" Wide Screen LCD - ViewsonicAudio =Creative 5.1 Ch. SBS 560/580
Any compatability issues like m/c heating or speed decrement etc, if upgrading to 1 TB? which HDD would be best fit?

if you can get a WD 1TB Black .. price should be around ~6.3k - comes with 5 years warranty and excellent performance.

if the diff with 1tb and 2 tb is around 1k , makes sense to buy a 2 TB drive, and use the 250 GB drive as the boot drive.

Maybe you can buy an 2TB drive from forum(s) for around 4000-4500

black has better performance , longer warranty period and better warranty support but you may not notice the performance difference a lot though.

Upgrading pc won't solve your storage needs. External and internal hdds has specific usage so decide which one you want.

if you don't need data to move across pc's or use the hdd only as a backup drive [ meaning no need to keep it hooked up 24 hour with pc] then go for external... but if you do need access the hdd almost always for a home pc better opt for internal hdd as they will offer better performance with the config you have.

I've seen plenty of people dropping their external drive and losing their data. So an external drive for "data backup" is a very bad idea. Apart from portability, I can't see any other good reason to use an external drive.

I am not that much techy guy. Just enhance home PC storage.
Decided to go with internal 1TB. Frenkly dont want to spent more than 4k for this old machine.Which size & model should I opt?
I still worrying whether 1TB makes PC slower or any operational hack ups in routine works (gaming, browing..).

A new 1TB should be faster than your existing 250GB. If you create a 250GB partition for the OS on a new 1TB drive, it will be noticeably faster. Everyone above has recommended the WD Blue. Keep in mind that a 2TB is about 6k, so the price per GB is cheaper for the 2TB.

You don't have to transfer anything. I meant if you make a 250GB partition on the 1TB and reinstalled the OS on that partition, it would be faster. But since you sound a little lost, its probably safer not to try anything :P

Not understood, really. Can you pl elaborate in layman wording.

The world is big. Like me, many others are ghost in other part of world wherein people like me are God.;)

In layman term :

1 : remove the 250GB HDD.
2 : Install the 1TB drive and install windows OS on it.
3 : Install the 250Gb HDD again and make sure that 1TB HDD is selected as first Boot HDD from bios setting.
4. Take backup of necessary files from 250GB to 1TB HDD and format the 250GB HDD .
5. Store whatever you like on the 250GB HDD.

BTW, this whole thing can be done with much simpler way without removing anything just by using HDD imaging software and bios setting.
