Storage Solutions Need to convert 500GB internal SATA HDD to basic disk from Dynamic Disk

^^ Which OS u r using?

Vista Ultimate supports Dynamic Disk whereas other versions do not. Best way is to install Windows 7 (if u don't have vista ultimate), then backup that drive data on to basic one and change volume to basic thru Administrative Tools option available in Control Panel.

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management and click on Disk Management.

Was on windows 7 :(

Now, the drive is getting detected and all that, but somehow I'm still not able to convert it to basic disk. Could I just format it from a bootable DOS disk?

If that fails, could I give it to the Seagate center (it still has 4 years of warranty) ? I'm worried coz there's no problem in HDD detection, just that in Drive Management (Windows) it shows "Unreadable'.

Also in Diskpart -> It's marked as Dynamic.

^ Select that partition from Disk Management and right click and select delete.

Else u can also use any 3rd party software.

I'm positive that option wasn't there.
It just said " 'Disk 0' - Unreadable " :S

Anyway, I'll try today eve and report back.

i had used a software called testdisk to recover data from a partition by copying it on a different hard disk and then converted the first hard disk to a basic disk . formatted it first before conversion.

did you try importing it first?

imo dynamic disks can be imported and have support in xp too.

this is from the help file in windows:

Every time you remove or import disks to a computer, you must click Action, click Rescan Disks, and then verify that the disk information is correct.

You can move multiple disks from different computers to a computer by installing the disks, opening Disk Management, right-clicking any of the new disks, and then clicking Import Foreign Disks. When importing multiple disks from different computers, always import all of the disks from one computer at a time. For example, if you want to move disks from two computers, import disks from the first computer and then import disks from the second computer.

I don't know how I'm ever gonna thank you guyz.. Testdisk IS the software! :ohyeah:

I've deleted the MBR partition info, backed up/restored the data I need to different hard disks, now it shows up as 'Unallocated' in System Management -> Disk Management.. Thanks a lot guys! :hap2:
