hello... i want to convert my dvd video to .mkv format... somebody please suggest software and codec. thanks a lot in advance

I haven't personally used it myself but I think VirtualDubMod supports MKV output.

You may try aimersoft dvd ripper, it's a nice general dvd converter, my friends recommend it to me, it works well, here is a step by step guide about it

U can try a software called MeGUI, its probably the best solution you can get.

mkv is just a container like avi. You can add videos encoded in DivX, XviD, x264 etc. in a mkv file. You can add multiple audio tracks and also concatenate different videos (even those having different bitrates) into one mkv file.sunilyo said:just out of curiosity. may i ask why do you want to convert it to mkv format? what is so special about this format?

Try Fairuse Wizard as suggested by azayer. If you want more complicated application having many options to tweak the quality of the video, then use Guardian Knot...
