Need To Gain Weight-Suggestions Needed Badly

im 65kgs from the past what decade or something.....it really doesnt bother me....if people say "ur thin!, put on some weight" , i just say "are you jealous????" or if its something who i really dont care abt gets the answer "the day u start loosing weight, i will start gaining some, u need to loose weight".....just be happy the way you are, its ur personality, ur way......once u reach a certain age , and when ur metabolism slows down, u will automatically gain weight......if u wanna get the fit fat exercise...and eat as much as u can with someone who tells u if ur fat , DO NOT loose out on an opportunity to get back saying "u can eat all u can , cause u dont put on weight"....have heard that a couple of times from people who love to eat, but dont, cause they start gaining weight.

I was in the same boat for several years, tried everything but only thing that worked and helped me increase from 60 kg to 70 kg in about one year is this-

3-4 eggs daily, one lays chips packet daily (20 Rs packet) and Mcdonalds mcaloo tikki burger atleast 2-3 times a week.

Trust me it works. :)

There is no way you can directly build muscle mass, so don't even listen to the suggestions about gym and all. It will only reduce your weight if you are already low on fats. Put on some fat and then enjoy Gym.

Sorry guys for this delay. Was busy with work during the last 2 days. Thanks very much for all the replies.

These are just social issues. Do not worry about it. Even many used to say the same to me. Am on the 'lean side'. I got so paranoid, that I went to a doctor for a thyroid profile test. He checked my BMI -- was fine. I still went for a thyroid test...it came out normal. Was not hyper. Just suggest you get your BMI checked. If it is fine, chill. Just social crap.

I will start with this. If you are from Bangalore, please suggest a good doctor.

@op, even i'm sort of thin but I don't feel bad or anything when people say you're so thin or you need to get fatter. instead look on the brighter side. people like us can eat any amount of any food we want and not feel guilty of putting on weight or need to count calories. ;)

One of the main reasons I started feeling bad was when I tried ready made shirts. Size 39 fits perfectly for me except the sleeves. Sleeves are always shorter. My room mates made fun of me saying I am an alien. A few other similar events got me into the present situation.

Eat rice at night, have fried food once a day, avoid exercise, and sleep less. Let us know the results after one month.

Else if you drink, beer is the way to go :D

PS: Those are the things I had to change to lose weight ;)

Man...I don't think I can follow this. For some reason, I don't like rice at night. If I try to eat rice, I always end up leaving half of it in my plate unless I have really good curries which is very hard to find from hotels. I already have no exercise at all :). As already experienced, sleeping less will affect my work in a bad way. I have a strict "no no" to anything related to alcohol.:S

here is the trick. There is a place called "Meghana Food" near Empire Hotel in Koramangala 5th block. Have biryani couple of times a week for a month and you will start gaining weight but do some work outs so that the weight will not be concentrated on tummy. There was rapid increase in my body weight when I used to have lot of biryani there but due to lack of work outs, my tummy started bulging :0

This is something I can try since it is just a few minutes from where I stay. But I have been eating biriyani (from office, so can't say it's good) for more than 2 months almost every day. No change at all. I don't know, I seem to have somebody inside me taking away everything I eat :D.

Dude i was in the same situation as yours some time back. I was @ 58 kg & im 5'8 so i was made to join gym & after doing rigorus weight training & having good amount of carbohydrate rich diet made me to reach 66kgs in just 1.5 month. Keep doin wieght training & try some banana shake after exercise & in breakfast you will surely gain whole lotta weight but keep in mind weight training & bit of cardio not much but bit of cardio is muct to gain wieght, in a healthy way.:)

Made to join?:D Do you still go to gym? I heard that once you stop going to gym, you will fall back to your previous weight. Is that true? What type of banana shake? Here in Bangalore, I have only seen Robesta shakes. But in Kerala, we get other types as well.

yes chap be happy and proud of being thin. Same happens with me, everybody around me just keeps saying just eat n eat and gain weight....i'm the thinnest guy in my group too. But now i'm now worried about it. We people can enjoy any amount of food we want n not worrying about getting fat5 like usually peo0ple worry now a days. )

My bmi is low and no thyroid issues. I went for all tests. And rest ALL IS WELL. And if you r tall then doctor says tall people have their skeleton structure built in such a way that we people tend to hardly gain any weight and still are healthy people.

And i have become an idol for fatty people....they r just jealous of me...

If you want to get your tummy out then only you can opt for BEER CANS...coz 1 of ma friends is 47kgs, 27yrs old and he too went for beer...n guess what????

he is still the same but got pregnancy type tummy..:ashamed::bleh:

So now you can think on this...

And dont go by the chart that if your height is so n so n so ur weight should be this much...all bullshit crap..:@

So i will advice just stay healthy and fit...weight has nothing to do about it. Unless you are gonna make career in WWE :ohyeah:

Nice advice. I am happy the way I am, especially after "someone important" told me to "be just the way I am". Still, when you get these kinds of suggestions from atleast one person per week, you may start thinking may be they are true.

@unni: what i don't get is why would you want to put on FAT?

Putting on the fat is as easy as tick tack toe but it is twice as hard to get rid of the fat.

What you should be aiming for is muscle. When i say muscle don't think of Ahnuld and the likes. Start going to a good gym and they'll figure out most of the things for you according to your fat and muscle %.

And always remember 70% of your fitness goal depends on your diet. So to gain, what you are looking at is lots n lots of dairy, bananas, rice, any kinda meat etc etc. I'd suggest a better diet plan but first you need to be clear about your goals: Fat or Healthy Weight Gain?

Sorry. My bad... What I meant was I wanted to look fatter than the way I look now. I need to read a lot about this area. Obviously, my goal is to have a healthy permanent & natural weight gain.

Consume extra 500 calories above maintenance every day , you ll gain .5 - 1kg a week .

You can use a weight gaining supplement if you aren't able to eat enough .

Your maintenance calories should be around 2000 - 2100 Cal's / day (140 lbs x 15) . Keep in mind though that wether you gain more of muscle or fat will depend on what kind of food you eat . (junk food / soda etc = fat ) .

To get the extra calories, I am thinking about cashew nuts. I saw in Haldiram's cashew package that 100 gm cashew gives you 674 kCalories. Did you mean just 500 calories or 500 kilo calories?

start eating beef..

Now, with Karnataka going on a ban of it, I don't think it would be possible. :)

^ A very unhealthy diet.

@OP, you can have one whole egg plus three to four egg whites, 2 servings of nuts and lots of milk. Workouts like Push-ups, pull-ups and squats so be good for the start and then hit the gym.

I will definitely go with this. I really like eggs, so no problem with that. How much would be 2 servings of nuts in terms of gms, and what type-cashew, ground nut? I think I am milk intolerant, because I tried to drink 2 glasses of milk (one full Nandhini Goodlife pack worth 15 Rs) in one day and ended up in toilet.

I though gomad was some chemical or something. :) As I said above, I may be lactose intolerant, will put myself to test in the coming days.

I think same will happen with me as well. I have seen my dad's old photos and he was thin then. But now he is fat (not too much).

I guess the main thing I need to keep in mind is not to listen to others (not you guys, these so called well wishers who don't seem to like the way you are). But the problem there is even my mom and dad wants me to change. I am still totally undecided on this.

I will start with seeing a doctor for taking the thyroid test, eating more eggs, nuts and if possible more milk.

Could you guys suggest some good doctor in Bangalore?

U said it. Workouts like Push-ups, pull-ups and squats so be good for the start and then hit the gym = will also boost his metabolism and digestion = OP will eat more. Nothing beats this.:hap2:

btw most of the diets suggested by members here will put on weight for you, but at your belly mostly :P. So seriously think before trying if at all. I have seen way too many skinny people with tummy.

Edit : Eat quality food even if it is fatty than eating junk food. You'll know when you see a quality food. As for nuts my favorites are peanut, almond and pista. Since peanuts (and peanut butter) are cheap i have more of those plus i carry almonds and some dried figs with me everywhere to have when i am hungry.

I am facing the same problem as yours, what you need is healthy weight gain. Dont go for junk food/beer etc.

Start drinking 3 (or atleast 2) glasses of banana shake + egg whites (3-6) (Well, anything with a high source of protein) + the occasional fish/chicken and join a gym.

You will see your appetite increase within days of joining a good gym with good trainers around. This way, you will also develop some muscles and look bigger which is good.

Atleast this is what Im doing..My weight first went downhill (for a week or so) and now I have started gaining weight (gained a kg in a week or even less).

Try it and see for yourself..:)

^^ :D :D

i was like 65kg , and i touch 188-190cms. you can imagine, how people react to that :D

anyways, gym worked fine for me, i did that for 4months.

And my eating non-veg food 5 times a week coz its soo yummy diet worked well with it :)

PS :: i weigh a normal 80kilos now

Just visit an "Endocrinologist" at any good medical facility. Similar to Max/Apollo/Fortis. Tell the doctor your worries, and ask him for a BMI check, and he can suggest thyroid tests. I think they check for TSH. Though I doubt you have this issue. Purely social stigma. My doctor was laughing at me, and I literally forced the thyroid check, which came out false for over active. His literal words were "I do not want to see you again, you are fine". People still consider me thin....!

Mate Gym is the key to Weight gain/ weigh loss.

For weight loss: do lots of cardio and some weight training + reduce calorie intake by 500 Kcal

For weight gain: Bit of cardio to warm up and lots of weight training + increase calorie intake by 500-1000 Kcal.

In both cases make it a protein rich diet whether its weight gain or weight loss. :)

And yeah though I am overweight I am working on it. No other way

Update: Went to gym after 3 days and lots of dinner parties at friends place over the weekend. Thankfully no weight gain :oh yeah:
