I have Desktop, a laptop and phone that need access to the net, since i had taken BSNL Type 1 modem from which has no wireless facility. I has become cumbersome to access net.

Requirements.
1) 3 or more Devices need an uninterrupted and simultaneous internet access.
2) I have a HP deskjet 3325 printer(5 years old, only USB port) , both the laptop and desktop should have access to the printer irrespective of each other.:P

Solution.
1) Get a wifi router( budget upto 2-3k)
2) Get a BSNL type 2 modem (which has wifi capabilities, since it will be single device and supported by BSNL, will be easy to configure and debug)

My preference is to purchase a BSNL modem, but does the BSNL modem/router support the printer, if connected via USB

Or if any other router which can satisfy the above requirements.

Please give your valuable suggestions. Please mention model no. of router

There's no way you can be sure a wi-fi router will support your printer unless it's specified on the router's supported list. The BSNL modems I've seen have no support for printers. If the 3325 was an entry level printer, it should work with any of the routers with printer support in the market. No way to find out for sure without actually trying it out. Can't suggest a particular non BSNL router cos I have no idea about prices as of now.

Hi,

My Two Cents

First : All routers will be just fine. No point thinking BSNL router will help you connect your printer to the Network

Secondly : After you set up a wifi network ( Which is a child's play believe me ) you can connect the printer via USB to your Desktop and then share it over the network.
That will make sure its available to the Laptop as well.

As for the choice of the Router ... I am using an old Netgear WiFi Router for more than 4 years ( wgr614v7 to be precise ).
For home needs I can suggest you can take a pick among Netgear,Linksys or Belkin...All of them make amazing routers

^ Like he said. Simply get a router. Connect your printer to the desktop. Share it. Your lappy will be able to access it over Wi-Fi. And your phone will be able to access the web via Wi-Fi.

Get the Asus WL520GU. Flash DD-WRT on it and you can use your printer connected to the router's USB port, independent of either the desktop or the laptop. Of course, like Naga mentioned, there's no guarantee that your printer will work with the router, but if it's a basic printer, you should be able to print.

Its easier to maintain and debug a single device, since its BSNL router/modem, they cannot blame the fault is on my side. :)

you can connect the printer via USB to your Desktop and then share it over the network.
Like i said i need the printer to be independent of desktop or laptop hence the above option is out .

Get the Asus WL520GU.
I guess this is the best option, hope the printer works :)

Thank U for all ur valuable suggestions
