Same situation I was in. Friend went gaga that if he pays customs he will charge me and all.. 200/- sarka diya customs ko. He got quite a lot of stuff, I mean lot thru customs :bleh:

Nexus One was for a [TE] member.
 
Reviving this thread, as I'm in same dilemma. Should I ask my friend to bring two phones or not? Will he get charged custom duty for that?

Btw, phones are Captivate $255 and Vibrant $230.
 
^You're allowed 25k worth of items duty-free anyway. Phones are the easiest to get into the country, just make sure the packaging is separate from the phone and you're good to go.
 
Erm..Reviving the thread yet AGAIN.

Want a tablet from states. I missed a KILLER deal on the iPad2 just because the customs duty and shipping appeared to be costly.

I want to know a couple of things.

1. How much is the customs duty on tablets such as iPad and the likes. Is it 15% as mentioned in the OP or is it 27%?

2. If someone has anyone coming to India from States, would it be possible for them to help me buy a tablet. I really want one and CAN wait for a couple of weeks/months too.

I would have it delivered at their place and all they would have to do is carry it.
