PC Peripherals Need vs Greed

I have the need, The need for speed...

Most of the time we relate two kinds of ppl with this statement... Auto Enthusiasts and the Computer Freaks . As of now i am talking about the later catagory as in The Phreaks:ohyeah:. What i feel that most of the time it is greed and very rarely it is need. There is a thread going on TE in which a buyer is trying to jump from a X850 XT PE to a 7800 GT. On paper its an upgrade. In practicality its waste of money. Thats what i feel. And this thread is not only for that it for everybody in general. I see people overclocking all the time. Not that i am against that but isnt it greed for speed rather then need.

Then there is a guy who is planning to jump from 7800GT to 7900GT. Hmmm lets see a second hand 7800GT will fetch ard 15K and a brand new 7900GT starts at 23K(Including tax). Price difference 8K. Wouldnt it be wiser to wait for couple of more months collect some money and SLI the biatch.But thats again more greed... Anyways. The point is it never ends.

Moving on to overclockers, I know half of the leet overclockers on TE who clock thier rigs to max hardly game on the damm thing. What i know is most of the time Funky/Darky are watching movies on the thing(Dont kill me guys :P). So i ask again is it need or is it greed. If it is need then i will like to know a justification. I know some of you encode movies and all but come on. That dosent qulify :bleh:. And trust me i know who games and who doesnt. "The Post Your Ingame Screenshots" thread says it all. The reasone for mentioning the gaming part is that no other application taxes the rig more or lets just say require this much power.

Yes rigs are not necessarily for playing games totally agreed but High end cards are :bleh: So dont give me that too. This thread is definately not targatted to Darky/Funky :P. They are good pals so i have mentioned thier names as examples :P. This thread is not meant to abuse or hurt anybody. This is just about having some clean discussion :). My question to all of you guys is that what is the real need for speed when u dont need it or is it just greed.

P.S. Before anybody gives me the crap Jinke ghar sheeshe ke hote hain... Or Switch... You sure are getting OLD...This is for you guys SLAP
 
Yes i am but before that i sold my 7800GT off at the same price i got it for and secondly I GAME and you know that :D...

And Blade... Patience my young padawan :bleh:... Guys this is the same kid who jumped froma 3000+ to a opty 144 to a opty 146 with in a period of 15 days and he didnt even use the 3000+ and opty 144 on top of it... Not to forget this kiddy also jumped from 6800U to a 7800GT within a period of 30 days... Need i say more blade :bleh:
 
And people like me who game as much as possible have to do with a 2.45 GHz limit on the CPU and a "measly" 6800GT and a 1024 x 768 resolution.....

Yeah yeah trying to save your a$$ all you want. Atleast my need for speed isnt related to greed :P Chk out the screenshots thread. :D

For me its more Need.

If i run CS Source @ Stock, my FPS wont go above 50 :rofl:...

@ 3.5Ghz it goes to 150, lowest 40 still. :(.
 
GOldenfrag something is wrong with ur installation :S
I have a p4 northwood + granddad 9800 , i play at 1024*768 with most settings at max , and my fps never drops below 50(inc firefights).Its usually 90-120.

Plus, i think my CPU is underpowered and choking.

Im getting the NeoHe in 3 days. Its coming in Tomoro, so i will know for sure.

Source engine sucks :ohyeah:, VERY VERY VERY CPU Dependent.

If i put it upto 1280*1024, then FPS drops to 60 Min and touches 120 FPS (Full Settings, 6xAA, 16xAF, as more pressure is on the Card. Not the CPU. Strange yes, but thats the Source engine
 
You can't really say it's greed... in a nutshell and based on what I've seen on TE, people want to upgrade/OC because others are doing it (this is what drives the need)... and most people are not doing it because it gives them a sense of accomplishment. Ok, part of it could be the personal accomplishment, but then you want to show it to the world and that leads to competition ;)

This will possibly change the direction of our discussion, but I truly believe this is how the need/greed is created in the first place :P
 
well switch .. i am GREEDY .. lol admitted. i know i dont have a real good reason to change from x850xt pe to a 7800GT but u know sometimes seeing all the kickass rigs people on TE have .. u tend to become greedy.
 
Maybe you'll think I'm the greedeist. :( I have spend loads on my rig, and am not even using it :rofl: Got a gto2 and OCZ just lying around :rofl:

i see nothing wrong in that.
I am kinda person that believes if someone else can do it then i can, and i can also do something that not many will or can :)
i will compete with whatever my wallet can allow me to get without going bankrupt. :)
