Please help guys :(

Got a Sony VAIO m series for sis, it's pretty decent. This one has a marginal faster processor compared to others. The price range is almost the same for all netbook, sis loved the VAIO looks, hence got it...

Get a MSI Wind U135. I've been using for the past month. The keyboard is awesome, island individual keys. The battery life is awesome ~ 7.5 hrs. It has wifi 802.11n and picks up upto two floors down. It cost me 15000 bucks on eBay last month via deal of the week. It's the best 15k spent so far :)

If the gateway LT2104u is available then go for it.

I have that netbook.

Reason is it has 8 hrs of battery life and it is giving me 10 Hrs:hap2:

Hmm that's awesome the Sony VAIO has just 5-6 hrs and cost me 23k :(
I got it free.

My Dad got that netbook as a gift from his colleague.

Still how much cell does your Sony's battery have.

Mine is a 6 cell. I started getting that much from the battery after I switched to Windows Vista Home Basic x86, before that it gave me only 6-7 hrs on Windows 7 Starter(useless crippled OS)

All I used to do was charge it full and then power it up and use it, till the battery goes down literally to 0% and then I power it down and keep it again for a Charge after it cools down.

I must have done this process aleast 20 times and as a result it gave me a bonus 2 hrs from the written 8 hrs.

If you want to increase your battery life then give Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 a try and maybe you might see an improvement on it.

Currently I am trying this method on my Dad's laptop Msi X340 which gives hardly 4 hrs.

That's strange as I thought Windows 7 power management profiles were most robust, I guess the starter edition has screwed up. I will give Ubuntu a go, and check if there is any battery life improvement.

Sure. Ubuntu Netbook Remix has some problems with wifi on my netbook i.e. frequent disconnections.

Windows Vista is better over Windows 7 because

-- It is tried and tested by many

-- It is older than Windows 7 and hence most of the problems are fixed.

-- Last thing is it needs lesser memory over Windows 7.

But in the end Both are the same because 7 is just a Major service pack over Vista.

If you can then give Windows Vista Home basic a try over Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
