Hi Guys,

I have an old S2, and in my bedrom [well, all over my house] I get a 100% signal strength on my Galaxy S2. My wife has a Huawei, and never really had an issue with calls, but just activated her 3G and found that 3g is poor. Checked signal strenth and it shows 40-50% mostly. If I locate the phone in a position to get 50% the 3g works well but otherwise not. With the S2 I don't have to do anything, and I get great 3g all over the house.

Anything I can do? Or is it inherently a 'you get what you pay for' syndrome?

Huawei G300.

The network signal says what I said in first post - much lower signal strength in the Huawei versus the Samsung. However over the day, I noticed that it is due to my holding the Huawei. When I leave it on a table, the signal goes up to 65-70% versus the 40-50% when held in my hand. Still lower than the Samsung which shows 100% held or on the table, but it [the Huawei] gives good 3g speed when tethered by wifi hot spot.

I take it both of you are on the same network.

The difference you notice when holding the handset is to do with the location of the antenna. It should normally be at the top of the model that way your hand does not get in the way. A simple fix might be to hold the phone in a way it does not obscure the antenna but this might not be practical.

Another way would be to boost the amplification in software but that has the direct effect of shortening battery life.

Its not entirely true that you get what you pay for. Cheap phones can have good receivers and work well, the problem is there are so many phones out and very little info unless you check forums for specific problems about a model.

What this does is give the high end phones a boost because people naturally assume more expensive = better.

Thanks. Like I said, it works great when left alone, and I am using the phone as a wifi hotspot. My airtel BB had some issues for over a week, and I was using our 3g connections. Yes, both phones are on airtel.

Very very happy with the Huawei for the price.
