From few days i am coming across this issue specially on asus boards is that when you restart the machine your lan is connected but there are no send bytes or receive bytes. When u disable it either u will get a blue screen with io error / ur lan card will get disable but when enabling it, it wont get enable and display a message "Connection failed" so to enable it you will have to restart the system

Have seen this on many board of asus made is there any one facing similar issue

try updating your nic driver...i used to get Blue screens randomly when browsing/heavy downloading...i updated my drivers...fine since then...just try..

Havent got any bsods or issues with lan yet but I have faced this connection failed error when I try to disable lan and it would need a reboot to fix. I thought it was one of those things that would go away with a reformat and reinstall of windows.using an asus p5wdg2 ws pro
