Its released and now you can have it on your pocket!
RBI is ready to issue a new bimetallic 10 Rupee coin for circulation.
The look: The obverse side has the lion capitol with numeral 10 and year of manufacture. On reverse side, a double line cross with a dot in each pellet of cross and denomination written in Hindi and English around. This design has been prepaed by National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad with the theme of Unity in Diversity. The outer side metal is Nickel-Bronze and the inner side metal is Ferrous Steel. The weight of the coin would be 8 grams and the diameter would be 28 mm.
The coins are being minted at mainly Noida and Mumbai mint. The coins worth Rs.70 million was already stored in its stock till August 2008.
i feel it wd have been nice had the move been shelved.
Neither the design nor the aesthetics looks appealing.

I dont know abt your perceptions and viewpoints.. but this design is a big let down.
I have seen some beautiful bi metallic coins wen i was a collector but this one really bites the dust.
Still hoping that this is a pre release beta version with users supposed to report the glitches. :|

Cheap Looking 10 Rupee Coin..

Looks cool and we seriously need a Rs 10 coin.

Btw ... I have got a Rs 10 coin which is some 60-70 years old. Don't know why they stopped making it.

its the new coin...i saw it on aaj tak too...though didnt found google link than so didnt posted...soon 10 rupees new note production will b stopped for this

^^ Instead of stopping production, they should start making Plastic kinda notes..

Indians are so rough tough users :D

My mom is from the JJ school of applied art and almost burst out laughing after looking at that. Seriously, that's gotta be one of the worst designs ever!

now Govt. employess are gonna recieve their salary in bags..........bags containing 10Rs. coin.

seriosuly they do that!
i remember, once my dad got bunch of packets containing 10paise in salary, and the other time my dad got two bags of 1Rs. coin, each having 500coins.
Govt. No longer do that, as salary directly deposists to bank account.
ps: my dad is BSNL employee (post: JTO/SDE)
I am thinking how it will look like if, employee having 5k as salary will get bag of 10Rs coins, 500 in number.

the coin obviously looks good cause of the new look. Yes we do need such coins. It looks real to me but still didnt get my hands on. When fid they start circulationn!

recession guys, guess they didn't wanna spend it on some designer, after all its just a 10 rs coin.

looks like our father of the nation is gonna rest for some while.

while on the topic, I wonder which moron redesigned the 1/2 Rs coins

There's no way you can differentiate between the two now without flipping it over to see the front face

But me liketh the 10Re coin. -_-

Amateur philatelist and numismatist over here. :)

I have the one euro German and two euro Finnish coins which are absolutely beautiful IMO. Our government should have taken inspiration for dual-color coins from those designs.
