The Indian market is flooded with new smartphones, but a greater chunk of them are phablets. Thanks to excellent global response to big sized smartphones, phablets have become a huge priority for smartphone manufacturers. And hence, you see a plethora of options available in different designs from various manufacturers selling phablets in India, all around the same price. So how do you differentiate between them all and device which one to buy? Well, read this guide then!
Wicked Leak Wammy Titan

Wicked Leak is a Mumbai based manufacturer and a new entrant to the smartphone market. Their products such as the Wammy Sensation (Galaxy S3 look-a-like) has got them some nice reviews from magazines like Digit. So while their Wammy Sensation gave users a Galaxy S3 like experience for real cheap (like less than half the price, around Rs. 14,000), the Wammy Titan aims to give users a Samsung Galaxy Note II like experience at again, nearly 1/3rd the price tag.

Wammy Titan Specifications

  • Mediatek MTK6577 chipset
  • 1.2 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 5.5" qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display
  • 5 point touch screen
  • 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP front facing camera
  • 4 GB of internal storage
  • expandable storage up to 32 GB via micro SD card
  • Dimensions: 144 x 89 x 12 mm, 192 grams weight
  • 2,500 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The phablet packs the standard Mediatek dual core chipset. The 5.5" display is not of HD resolution as the Note II, but qHD has to suffice for this budget clone. 1 GB of RAM is a welcome boost. We were growing sick of seeing 512 MB RAM device launches.

The phone packs a 8 MP camera. Don't be fooled by the sensor MP size, it might (most probably) not be as good as an 8 MP module on the Note II. The phone is pretty big, and thick at 12 mm. 192 grams weight is heavy, but it is a phablet after all.

The phone also has a decent 2500 mAh battery that promises 8 hours of talk time and 260 hours of stand by which is very good. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean comes pre-installed.

You should buy this phone if...

  • ...you want a 5.5" phablet
  • ...are okay with the weight of the phone
  • ...want a relatively new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience

Lava Iris 501

The Lava Iris 501 was launched recently as an addition to Lava's expanding line up of Android smartphones. The Iris 501 is a 5" phablet, making it the smallest of all newcomers (funny, 5" smartphone actually being tagged as 'smallest'). The Iris 501 is a decent phone with a nice and curvy design, but it might not impress much compared to the other two phones in this comparison chart. Perhaps that is because the Lava Iris 501 is competing in a different market segment altogether, i.e. with the Micromax A110 Canvas 2 (the current top dog).

Previously posted opinions:

Lava has launched a new smartphone, the Lava Iris N501. The N501 is essentially a phablet, with it’s 5″ size (screen, we are talking about the screen). The phone is another of the many 5″ droids that the Indian market is filled with to the brim, offering the same Android 4.0 ICS and a dual core with dual sim combination and the same old 512 MB of RAM as well.

Previously posted opinions:
The Lava Iris N501 packs pretty decent specifications, all held together with a decent design as well. The phone is not all that bad, with a curvy design and 3 capacitive buttons placed below the huge 5″ display. The phone does seem to have quite some bezel around it.

  • ...you want a 5" phablet
  • ...have a slightly smaller budget
  • ...are okay with the dated Android 4.0 ICS
  • ...can live without maximum multi-tasking (512 MB RAM)
  • ...want to try out the smallest category of phablet experience

Zopo Leader Max ZP950

Zopo is a Chinese manufacturer who has recently entered the Indian market and have made their presence felt by releasing a couple of devices, all packing nice design and specifications. The Zopo ZP950 is a huge smartphone. 5.7" is nothing to laugh at, and you should only think of this phablet if you really want something huge lying in your pocket (no pun intended), or have huge (cave man) palms, or just want a huge phone.
Zopo ZP950 Specifications

  • Mediatek MTK6577 chipset
  • 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 5.7" HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display
  • Dual SIM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS
  • 8 MP rear camera, PV CMOS sensor and LED flash
  • 2 MP front facing camera, HD video
  • 4 GB of internal storage
  • expandable storage up to 32 GB via micro SD card
  • Magnesium Alloy Skeleton (body)
  • Dimensions: 158 x 83 x 10.1 mm, 210 grams weight
  • 2,500 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The phone dimensions increase further, moving closer to 7" tablet territory. At this size, it is even safe to call this phablet a mini-tablet eh? The battery size remains the same as that of the Wammy Titan. We can expect a slightly worse battery life thanks to the larger and higher resolution display. The camera seems to be of good quality, with a particular PV CMOS sensor as well as a 2 MP front facing camera capable of HD video (welcome high definition video calling).
