Coming back after I withdrew from gaming 2 years back,I got the asus A8n Vm ,AMD 3000+ 1.81 GHz,512 MB ddr1 and nvidia 7300 gt ddr3 card,I understood the whole think changed a lot:huh::huh: So not a serious gamer now however I would like to play Ghost recon advanced war fighter 2 and newly released operation flash point dragon rising etc.Now my question can I benefit from upgrading the card without altering the whole system,am offered nvidia 8600gt 512mb for rs3000 and a 9400gt for rs3500,1gb video ram...got a budget upto RS 5000.Thanks in advance:clap:

IMO:

Buy Zebronics Pro 350W = +Rs.1500 (80+ PSU, Somewhat Famous on TE, can handle current gen gpu and cpu easily.)

Buy HD4670 512MB = Rs. 3900~4200 (Very VFM gaming card)

Sell the 7300GT = -Rs.500 (You cant game on this)

Sell the mercury 400W generic PSU = -Rs.200 (This thing isnt recommended for current generation GPUs or infact for anything!)

Total = Rs. 4700~5000

:hap2: Enjoy :hap2:

go on with the gigabyte 460w super which costs 2.2k. It will handle a 9800gt quite good IMO. Get the Palit 9800gt which i think will fit into your budget...

dont ever use the mercury crap PSU . The specs on the PSU is totally misleading. It will kill your GPU (as well as the whole system ) as soon as possible. Dont even gift it to anyone as they will curse you for sure in due time. Just dump it in the dustbin.

erm ... your system will be a severe bottleneck in playing the current games. Upgrading gfx wouldn't help much. If you cannot upgrade other components just get whatever you can in a 2-3k budget.

a year back i almost had same config. ( msi rs480 , 3000+ , 1.25gb ram nvidia7600 , antec 650psu) after upgrading to ati4850 on same for playing games at higher settings. most games like VEGAS, VEGAS2 .NFS MW etc always got freeze on 4850 ( though that was not case with nvidia7600). to avoid that bottlenecking upgraded whole system.
so either dont go with card higher than nvidia8600 or ati46xx on that setup.:no:

You better get a card which your Mercury 400 W can support. You don't want the card and find that the PSU will not be able to power the card.

The Zeb Pro series PSU and 9800 sounds good. A good PSU and a card that wouldn't bottleneck with the CPU very much.

Or

You can add 1 GB RAM and a cheap 8600 GT.

Go very slow when it comes to buying a component for a PC , I made that mistake . You can even save the 5000 Rs. sell the old PC and with a little more cash you can get a decent PC with Onboard graphics.

my friend has a similar setup with AMD 3200+, 1 GB ram and 8600GT. He is not able to play any new games at acceptable frame rates and eye candy has to be turned down to bare minimum. You can try your luck with 4670 but don't expect anything magical to happen.

Plus you should first of all upgrade ram to a minimum of 1 gb.
