Super Mod
An exclusive mall for technology products - Techmall - is coming up at Goregaon in Mumbai. The mall is scheduled to open by December 2006.

A first of its kind in India, Techmall will offer consumers a one-stop shop for all consumer electronics and computers/peripherals. This mall is to be constructed in an area of 1 lakh 30,000 sq. ft. 70,000 sq. ft space will be allotted for IT business, and is expected to accommodate 80-90 shops.

This project is been concived by Rachana-Astra Constructions and Rajendra Chhapwale. Rahul Chhapwale and Ratan Bhalwankar are its directors.

Speaking to ChannelTimes about this project, Rahul Chappwale said, "This mall is being built on the concept of Singapore's Sim Lim Square, wherein a particular place acts as a specialty market. Although Mumbai has specialty markets for various technology goods, there is no single-sourcing point for all technology goods. At Techmall, you will find OEMs and wholesale distributors of every kind of technology goods... be it TV, video, mobile phones, computers and accessories, gaming products, communication products, consumer electronics, etc., all under one roof."

"At Techmall people can see variety under one roof, compare and make a choice," he added.

Shop space will be made available to all big and small vendors, resellers, distributors to set up shop, showroom, service center, etc, on lease. Major computer and consumer electronics OEMs are in the midst of negotiating to lease prime space within the mall.

The directors will act as the management committee of the mall. Telling more about this, Chappwale said, "It would also be an ideal location for big brands to hold technology-related events like roadshows, product launches, conferences, etc. We as the management will help in promotion of their events. At present, we are having negotiations with big vendors like HP, Philips, etc."

The developer's plans also include rolling out similar Techmall in other tech-intensive cities such as Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Delhi NCR in the coming years.

Finally , All under one roof ... more competition ... lesser prices
( Hopefully )

lesser prices

Usus dude. They will almost certainly charge higher prices.

See, around the world, bigger retailers provide lower prices due to the large volumes they can sell (forget best buy, think Walmart). But in India, they have greater overheads and manpower costs are a different issue here so ultimately they will charge higher.

nice.. i live in goregaon and that wud avoid the trips to lammy :D though i saw this ad long time back.. can't remeber where.... TOI or TT?

Nice. I Doubt they will charge higher.

Infact you could think when they just open they may charge more, but one may also think that just opened so charge lesser :p "Grand Opening Sale!" Yeah! Lol.

It should be a nice place. Specially if its base on the Sim Lim Square :E.

Sim Lim was the easiest Tech Shopping i have done in my life. (Well, im only 15 :p)

wish they cud do sumthng simlar in chennai......

God... to bear the crowds throngng Ritchie street in the chennai heat is crazy!

I live near Lammy road and I think it would be a terrible location - I would probably NEVER go to Goregaon or any other GAON to to buy computer hardware. With this mall coming up the guys in the Lammy road shops will probably become more competetive in their pricing so it will in the end be good for me too. :D

wow i stay in malad , one more gr8 mall comming up and that also full of tech products
is a big welcome.

Hope this mall has new companies comming to india to sell there products here.

dont start the suburbs v/s town BS here please...

goragaon and lamm bhot door hain..main kya karu???btw if normal guys r given shops then it will b nother lammy...but if its given to corporTES LIK COMPAQ etc then 4get abt price being less..........but i guess most probably it will b another lammy and that will make lammy guys too to bring prices down.(ofcourse i means profit)

Well, the lammy guys have the advantage of being the original importers... only way their price can be matched is if the mall imports direct too.

yup o i guess the lammy guys do overcharge...i think asus a8ne is ard 8.5k here(got on 31 aug)..but in south they r ard 6.6k(deltapages 5 sep prices)...same abt dvd writer benq.....3.3-3.1k here...in south ard 2.8k or even less than that
note::the facts abt south prices r frm deltapages and some ppl posts

the facts abt south prices r frm deltapages and some ppl posts

The actual rate that we get on Ritchie street is usually slightly less than what is posted on Deltapage.com :eek:hyeah:

e.g adeltapage says this:

AMD AMD 64 - 3200+ 9650

The actual gng rate is arnd 9.2K

But then I believe Bangalore prices suck ....they are at least 15-20% higher than here

As this is Mall and at all Malls you get product with Pakka Bill and all other taxes included, so don't think at any mall you get less than Lemington/local market.

One another advantage of Lemington/local mkt. is that you can bargain there but at mall all prices are fixed !
