Dude, a DSLR is only as good as its lens, i am not aware of your proficiency with DSLR's before this, but in my opinion, since new 450 has hit street, the prices of 400d came down tumbling which in itself was an amazing camera, buy that with some good IS lense for telephoto and maybee a prime (nifty fifty) or some 28-70 lense.

Also, buy body only if you can and take lenses of your choice.

@tech_suhail - He already bought the lens !!! But to be honest Canon does not have any cheap telephoto lens other than the 50-250 IS lens where the build quality is questionable. With the built in IS of the Sony, you can use any darn telephoto lens and you get IS.

@BF1983: sigma 18-200 IS is a cheap and amazing IS lens for Canon/Nikon. The thing with Camera Built IS is that you might be benifiting right now by buying any lens with or without Is, but upgrades become restrictive.

I don't see Nikon/Canon upcoming with built IS for another 10 years, only Sony is offering the camera built in IS.

First of all, Olympus, Sony, Pentax all feature in-body IS - Canon and Nikon are the only ones without in-body IS.

Secondly, tests all around the net are proving that in-body IS works - simple. Extreme telephoto IS lens are still better than in-body IS (obviously, think of the weight balance ratio for a huge telephoto lens vs the body) for high zooms. But STILL, in-body IS works great even for telephoto ranges upto 200-250mm, which is MORE than enough for most guys.

And lastly, in case you still want extreme telephoto IS lens - nothing stops you from getting the same for a Sony body. :)

Most importantly, in-body IS is a boon for the casual shooters at ranges of 18-150mm with fast lenses. A stabilized f1.4 50mm prime or a cheap stabilized f2.8 zoom 18-50 zoom is a great tool for indoor shooting.

@Tech_Suhail - d_payne is right by saying Canon and Nikon are the only people without in body IS.

Also only Olympus people will have problems upgrading since the 4/3rd system lacks third party support from manufacturers like Tokina, Tamron, and Sigma.

However Pentax and Sony face no such problems as they make their own brand of lenses and can use off brands like Sigma, Tamron etc with IS enabled in ALL of them.
