PC Peripherals New Gaming Build

Xenesis

Novice
After 2 builds fer myself im building a new Gaming PC fer a friend. His budget is around 55k.Heres what i have in mind.
Intel C2D E8400..........9k
Abit ip35-e................5.5k
G-Skill 800Mhz 2 GB Ram......2.5k (Which one??)
E-VGA 8800GT KO...............14k
Seagate 250GB Sata2..........2.5k
CM Elite 330.......................2k
CM 600W...........................3.2k
AL VS4121 (2.1)..................2.7k
Dell E228WFP......................11k (his father is getting it from Singapore;COOL!)

Total:52.4k

Still i have to get him a keyboard+mice(he wants wireless).
So guys is tis good enuf?? He'll be gaming(when his fathers not around LOL) and otherwise it will be the family's HTPC.
Also tell me where to get the stuff from? This friend stays in Goa.Anyone knows a good Goa shop or is it better to buy d stuff in Mumbai?????????
Plz Let me know...............
Thnx in advance..................

guess it would be better to buy from mumbai/pune.

get the corsair vx450watt psu instead of the cm.. else seems like a good enough config.

Your config looks pretty good, apart from the PSU. Go for the Corsair HX/VX series (as sTALKEr rightly mentioned) or Antec Toughpower series.

Some alternatives to consider:
1. HDD: Storage is cheap and its always better to go for the maximum possible space as your budget will allow, whence not sacrificing other stuff you need. Consider 7200 rpm 320 GB/400 GB, brands could be Seagate, Hitachi, WD.

2. RAM: Depending on the OS you want to install consider upgrading the RAM to 3GB/4GB, if you want to install and use Vista. Brands: Corsair XMS2 800 Mhz series is exceptional.

3. If you plan on overclocking, consider going for a custom heatsink/fan combo.

Hope that helps!

yep chng psu to corsair vx450..3.6k
if its gonna b HTPC then get a better speakers too...prolly 5.1
Ram Gskill is great.....

Intel C2D E8400..........9k

Abit ip35-e................5.5k [Should be li'l cheaper]

G-Skill 800Mhz 2 GB Ram......2.5k [Get the Geill 2x1GB 800MHz sticks: Newegg.com - GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory ]

E-VGA 8800GT KO...............14k

Seagate 250GB Sata2..........2.5k [Will this suffice?? A 7200.11 500gigger is around 3.8k FYI]

CM Elite 330.......................2k

CM 600W...........................3.2k [Stalker's suggestion's wise; Get the Corsair VX450]

AL VS4121 (2.1)..................2.7k

Dell E228WFP......................11k (his father is getting it from Singapore;COOL!)

Total:52.4k

Drop in at the Lamington Road and get quotes from:

Prime ABGB; Casette world; The 2 should give u the best rates IMO; :)

Although u can get most of the stuff u want from TE itself courtesy the Regd. Dealers. :D

Thnx for all d suggestions guys.Now ill change the PSU to Corsair 450 watt.is it true that Corsair rate their PSUs at lower capacities when actually it gives more wattage?Why woud they do that? Strange....
That done what about ram sticks?1X 2gb or 2X 1GB?
He'll go in for a 32-bit setup that includes a XP-Vista dual boot.So what is best VFM ram sticks at 800 mhz? I havent heard about geill and are they available in India?

Go for 2x1GB DDR II sticks @ 800MHz.

Corsair Value series/Transcend JetRams. [A pair should be typically ~ 2-2.1k]

Geill aren't available in India; Can be sourced to ur doorstep however, via katmandude. :)

Jus googled i think both XP and Vista support 4GB Ram.What about ip35-e?

Also isnt 4GB RAM just an overkill???

XP 64 bit supports 4GB;

And for Vista anything above 2GB does good; demands at least 2GB;

IP35-E supports 8GB RAM. :)

Processor : Q6600 [OC'd to 3.6 GHz would beat the hell out of 8400 and its overall better for general computing as well]

Mobo : IP35-E [real good VFM]

RAM : OCZ from Amarbir [4Gig is really good if u choose Vista , even on XP 3.5 gig would show , when it comes to RAM more the merrier]

GFX : Dont buy one now, its worthless to get a gpu now, wait for just a month and u'll have 1.5x the same performance for the same price

HDD : Get the WD 640 , real nice speeds and great RMA service

Case : CM 330 is a good case overall, if u dont wanna spend that much on a case

PSU : VX450 . much much better than CM600

Speaker : VS4121 is a beauty my friend :)

Monitor : Try to get a SP2208 (2ms response time as its a gaming rig)

Try amarbir, Rahul, Phoenix from here, they offer u better service and support than ur local walla :)

This config will set u back a 5-7.5k more but would be a better long lasting build :)

Err.. Memnom, I think u need to take a look at these charts:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Review - hosted by Neoseeker

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Review - hosted by Neoseeker

Its an age old fact [yawn. :|] that the E8400 beats the Q6600 in most games [with the exception of few games which utilizes 4 cores in a processor like UT3, Lost Planet:EC etc.] ;)

OC'd to 3.6 GHz would beat the hell out of 8400 and its overall better for general computing as well

U got it wrong there as well. I dont need to mention the overclocking ability of the E8400, do I?? Much easier and better clocks achieved than the Q6600 with the same multiplier. :)

The quads're best at rendering apps and encoding-decoding not games [as of now].

Gannu , really no game now is CPU dependent and at higher resolution its more pronounced, every game engine from now on is coded to make advantage of the Cores as well as Speed , so with this trend 8400 will be out phased soon

crysiscpu1024ve0.jpg

From the Crysis results, its apparent that CPUs don't really have a significant impact in performance but that the bottleneck still lies on GPU performance. In other words, for modern games, these two CPUs are going to be comparable with an exception of games like Supreme commander that take advantage of four cores.-TomsHardware

ut3botmatch1024yt7.jpg

See? the performance is really meager if not unnoticeable, so why not get a better proccy which give much better overall computing satisfaction :)

But as a matter of fact, for games,

Its E8400>>Q6600;

Overclocking dept:

E8400>>Q6600;

But rendering, AV encoding-decoding;

Q6600>>E8400; :)

no m8, u are not getting wat im saying bro.

Any processor overclocked above 3.4 or so wont be a bottle neck in games now, every game is GPU dependent that too at Higher Resolution.

And why do u need 4gh+? only games use up that speed , for the rest more the cores the better rite? It aint about Encoding and stuff for normal PC use itself im taking :)

And with every game going the Quad way why go for a Duo that too when the price difference is 1900? :)

Honestly, quads are not worth it for a gamer at the moment. You need to consider many factors. Power consumption, heat, noise, strain on the motherboard PWM.

Get the quad only if you actually need one. Otherwise stick to E8400 and other dual core processors. For gaming quad does not make sense. Dont even show me UT3 benchmarks. Those are all botmatches. It does not reflect how the game experience of UT3 will be in SP mission or online gameplay. The only reason quad is showing improvement there is bcoz all these benchmarks are flyby botmatches having bunch of cpu controlled bots running around. This is not the case while you actually play games like UT3 online ( thats the only way one should play UT3, online or dont play at all ).

Phew... :thanx: :angel1:

Memnom, now do u get it??? ;)

Those're the words of a geek who's had both the processors. :D

If u're looking for a no frills keyboard, then get a Samsung Pleomax; Great keyboard at a good price [~300bucks]

If u're looking for a gaming mouse, look no further. Get the MX518 [1.2k]. :)
