Hi All,
Looking to get myself a nice new Gaming Rig. Did a lot of research on the net and have basically settled on the following set up recommended at hardware.info
E6750 + 2Gb of DDR2-1066 + Scythe Infinity Cooler + Gigabyte P35-DQ6 MoBo +ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT + 2x Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 250 GB in RAID 0 + Syncmaster 226BW
From what I've heard, most of the above ought to be available at Lamington Road. Unfortunately, this is where my problems start, I've only been there once, I dont' know any dealers, I've never assembled a PC before...bad combination!!!
In any case, any advice wrt brands, prices, dealers, etc. for the above would be greatly appreciated. I also need to know what the current rage in cooled cabinets is (not really bothered about LED's). The cooling bit is very important as I'm currently using a Vaio (nuff said)...Also, are scythe fans available here? or is cooler master still the boss?
Thanks in advance,
Azzy

Just get the phone number of an assembler from the dealer, he will charge 500 bucks max for assembling.

Just go and get the estimate from 4 - 5 dealers, buy the components from the cheapest one.

Cooler master is still making very good gaming grade cabinets. The leader being CM Stacker 830 EVO, cost around 14.5k. If u have budget constraints u can go for CM Stacker 810 in 10k or in mid tower level new entrant CM690. CM690 cooling rocks it's range. Not exactly sure about its price. Should be 8.5k max.

i think you have got some choices wrong in your setup.

if you can then i would suggest to go for the q6600 otherwise 6750 is fine.

instead of infinity get the thermalright ultra120 extrme + scythe 120mm sflex fan, its available @ lamington for Rs.3600/- all inclusive for both.

instead of the gigabyte dq6 which will be priced insanely you should go for the abit ip35pro which is there at lamington for 12k or so.

instead of 2900xt get the 2900pro. much cheaper & is the same card as xt. am currently using it.

try avoiding 1066 ram as they will be priced insanely, try getting them from abroad or buy them from some member on te, thl or E. someone will surely be selling a brand new kit.

samsung 226bw is really nice but 7k more than the other 22" screens doesnt seem worth it to me. so you can think about this too.

best cabinet & vfm is chieftec bh02 for 3.7k or the chieftec lbx for 4k. you can check my rig gallery i am using the cabinet.

lastly make sure you pickup a good psu like the corsair hx620.

let me know if you need any other help.

You Guys are F*****ing stars!!!!.....thanks for the advice...exactly what I was looking for....budget is flexible provided I'm getting a Rig that will give me good frame rates on all the new games...I'm not looking to spend on a top of the line rig at the moment.
As far as the DQ6 MoBo is concerned, theres a review of it on TE retailing at 12.5k in Chennai (not sure if I remember correctly) so I'll have to confirm that by calling the number given. Other than that any idea on the 1066 prices?
Thanks a TOn!!!!!!!!!

1066 ram will be priced insanely. i would stay away from them to purchase locally. but some members are selling brand new kits which i would suggest.

also you could get the abit ip35pro in bbay via kmd for 9k which i have picked up, so u save 3k more over there.

Stormy why don't you make him a list with the dealer name and parts with prices...

Product Available at and Price...

It will be helpful for others also...

well here goes

q6600 = 11.5 - 11.6k (g0 stepping)
true + scythe = 3600
abit ip35pro = 9000 (kmd) otherwise 12000 (local)
sapphire hd2900pro = 14000 (kmd) otherwise 17500 - 18000 (local)
1gb x 2 ddr2 800 patriot extreme new kit. 1 guy is selling it for 5000rs. i think if you buy it locally they will charge you around 8 - 10k which isnt worth it.

cabinet chieftec bh02 = 3.7k
otherwise coolermaster690 is arriving here next week. it will be priced slightly lower than 5k confirmed price.

well hdd depends on you. which you want.

psu i would recommend corsair hx620 for around 6.9k.

i dunno if to post the dealers contact or no. so if you want the info of where to get these from bbay then just send a pm.

although i will not be in town for the next 3 days.

@stormy.. i read a coupla days back on the forums that someone in jaipur of all places got the rc690 for 4k all inclusive..

:) ^^Correct and phoenix on the market section is offering the xms2 kit from corsair for 4900 (ddr2 800MHz) which I think is very good for local warranty...

He is probably from mumbai...so the ram also can be directly collected

side from graphics card solution, I agree with most of what the above posters have recommended.

About Graphics cards:
Isn't 8800 GTS 640 MB better than HD 2900 PRO/XT?

Advantages of 8800 GTS 640 over HD 2900 series:
1. It has better AA performance at high resolutions than both these cards.
2. Much lower power requirements.
3. Less heat dissipation (needed especially for places like Mumbai, where it gets really hot/humid in summer)

I would only go for 2900 series, if you are interested in benchmarking and posting scores or Folding@Home.
I would go with 8800GTS 320/640 MB for everything else or 8800 GTX, if you can afford it.

2900pro can be easily oc'd to xt levels... its cheaper.. perf wise its a bit off the target but its sure to improve with driver updates.. if ur looking for a really good vfm soln.. stick to the 2900pro

I dont know why everyone is recomending Q6600 , which is 4K Rs/- more than E6750 . Most of the applications dont use all the 4 cores . Best bet would the E6750 . Unless you want to boast of have 4 core CPU . Get the E6750 now , get a good motherboard ,even if you have to spend 2-3 k more , when the penryn comes ,you can upgrade if at all you manage to top out your E6750 .

True.
But OC generates even more heat and causes even more power dissipation which requires a much beefier Power supply. Which means you end up spending more cash on Power Supply/Fans/Cooling instead of the real meat, which provides performance in this case (the graphics card). Just my train of thought here.

And what about if you do not want to OC?

Just confirming the price of the P35-DQ6 MoBo at 12.5k + shipping from VanPac Systems in Bangalore - They also have a fellow in Mumbai who will be able to get this baby for me - price enquiries made, waiting for call-back - PM me for contact details.
