Your email or the personal contents of your computer could soon be under the government’s scrutiny without your

knowledge.

With Parliament on Tuesday passing a bill which stipulates life imprisonment for those indulging in cyber terrorism and giving the government endless power to “intercept or monitor any information through any computer resource,” experts fear that “unauthorised interceptions could soon become common”.

Calling for setting up of an independent authority to review complaints of unauthorised interceptions, cyber law expert Pavan Duggal told TOI that the bill was bound to infringe on civil liberties like right to privacy or right to anonymous communication with legitimate purposes, because no safeguards had been put in place to prevent such abuse.

Calling the bill "a hurried reaction", Duggal said, "The potential for misuse of these powers stipulated by the bill for political gains can’t be ruled out."

Now this is alarming as potential for misuse is just too much.
 
omg, they could well see what torrents i'm downloading and the next day i may well be in for piracy issues?

Well to begin with they are out to catch the terror related communications but later on it can go to any extent.

This idiocy has to stop. This is nothing but harassing citizens while allowing terrorists to continue their work peacefully. Government taking more and more control of day to day activity never results in good.

no help for security - till BRIBE CULTURE exist in India. No help as the same govt. official didn't bother to keep eye/ear over Rulling Polititians mail/activity/calls. :@
 
Bloody, pathetic Govt. is taking the Inspector Raj into Citizen's privacy.
Only the movements/cyber activities of Govt. officials should be tabbed, they are the ones who put the Country to risk. Please leave the innocent public alone.
All lapses are at Govt's end, they need to get their act together rather harrass common people.
 
hmm, what about privacy. Do we have to encrypt emails and send :P

If you want to do this, then don't publish it officially, terrorists will find other ways.. They are one step ahead of govt....
 
All these govt babus don't know anything. They think by banning chinese sets terrorists will not be able to use cell phones.
They think that by snooping in the lives of ordinary citizens they will be able to decode terror messages ( ya, right !)
Terrorists will just start using strong encryption which these govt babus will have no clue about. It's the ordinary citizen who will suffer.
I can see the end of democracy as we know it, because privacy and all rights are slowly being withdrawn
 
do they have the space to store such a huge amount of data in the first place?

or the personnel?

they might want to buy some 5-10 (or more) buildings/ data centres full of 1TB hdd's if they plan to start snooping on every email sent or received.

they dont have the capacity or technology to do this.

That should be a secondary thought .. who is going to analyse the data of 1Billion Indians ?

Besides Terrorists use code words ..so its not gonna help anyway.

STOP CORRUPTION is the only solution.
