@Phoenix we had a huge discussion related to the same within mods some time back. Eventually we had reach the conclusion that TE should not be made an exclusivity including the market section.

We have asked the admin to implement a time period for a new member to enter the market sections, something like 35 posts + 5 days, which should hopefully reduce the spamming noticed by Shailesh

It's not about making it exclusive. What we are doing is increasing the risk of fly by night deals on TE by new members. I don't need to point that out. And where did the exclusivity come from ? A guy who joins TE for TE can wait for 30 days and have someone review his posts i think to be "GRANTED" the reward of being able to access the market section. It's not exclusive. It's restrictive. If i am not mistaken, the market section as pointed by all the mods is a privilege and not the Selling Point of TE. Whatever the mods say that they are not responsible for the deals happening on TE, you people are to some extent, in terms of making it safer, not for taking the end responsibility. I personally deal very very less in the market section. It is for the others for whom i am pointing this out.

As for the decision, 35 posts +5 days is nothing. It's no restriction. No use troubling the admin for so small a change.

I have actually no idea why the day limit has not been applied till now, i know nearly all mods who i have talked to were in favor for this, including having someone review the new members posts before they are allowed into the market. I know adding these limits will reduce traffic into TE, and for all we say, it is a very important thing when it comes to running such a huge site. But that is no reason for making it troublesome for older members.

I for one at one point came to TE a month or so back everyday expecting a new thread in the Market Feedback section pointing out how they have been scammed and asking for Mods to butt in. Everyday. As such the mods could not do anything except put in the names of the fraudsters in that new banned thread. But IMHO, you responsibility lies in the power to prevent them, not correct them.

^^ Dhondu beta...Just chill :P (Sorry found this apt here :ashamed: )

But nevertheless cannot agree more to what you have said. 5 days is a mediocre limit. At least a month will suffice.

^Lol. Me chilled man. I wouldn't care lesser if even the basic 35 post limit is removed. Hell, why should we make the poor chaps go through the trouble of even putting in 35 posts just to get them deleted the next day huh ? I say let them in :P

What if we keep a timeframe limit only and extend it and exclude Posts count limit.
Example :
No entry into market section for at least 180 days or 60 days.

Wat say huh ?

Well we had reached a decision long back, lets not reveal what it was. As far as I remember it was a bit different from what Aces has mentioned, so take that out of your mind. The implementation is awaited till the admins show up (please note I am only a skin specialist :P configuration can be done only by Apex or Safin)

Till that happens lets evaluate it one more time. What the community wants. We have possibly three cases that should govern the restrictions.

If our concern is:

  • Spam - We disable all restrictions. Any post limit will invite spam.
  • Dealer deals - We disable all restrictions as they may want exposure. But as I understand from Amar's thread, the dealers want to give special deals to only old members. Well that they can evaluate on their own so this is not a concern
  • Fraud - We must have stringent restrictions. This could be time based or post based.

The problem with the restriction could be-

  • Time based - Problem is that a user may register and cool off till he is ready to deal.
  • Post based - Will lead to spam. If it is too high then it will restrict users, genuine users who don't like to post much. Is not a useful way to curb fraud, if you visit the blacklisted members thread you will notice that most users are actually well over any practical limits that we can set.

IMO, our concern should be spam alone, the authenticity of the user cannot be ascertained by rules. So as far as I am concerned we should NOT have a post based restriction. Time based probably for 30 days.

As far as this goes, it is the Dealer's discretion. I personally have no qualms in selling to a new member.

Everything else that you said is true. But as you yourself have pointed out, just a time based restriction won't suffice. A combined 35 post +15 day time based restriction will do ,and as far as spam goes, as i said, a person overseeing this and "gate-keeping" the market area can control that.

And Reny... I have a bone to pick with you:@

It is just not possible to act as a gate keeper for new members. Unless we send all their posts to moderation when they post. But then again we would need a dedicated staff team to approve posts throughout the day.

  • fly by night deals
  • you responsibility lies in the power to prevent them, not correct them.
  • bone to pick with you

Someone has been taking english classes. I hope you havent started on karate yet.

Have regathered a bit. Will call you tonight.

I agree with Ren and time limit will be effective way to stop spam(not completely though :P).

Basic cause of spamming is to get over the limit of say X posts to enter into Market section.

..........ahem..............

Keeping it on topic :P

As i said , u don't need a staff. One person can do the job. And no need to send their posts for moderation. Just as soon as a member has fulfilled the criteria, just send their name to the respective mod, and he can just check their posts. No need to do it all day. If he finds them proper, the guy gets in. At least you can try this on a trial basis. If it works, keep this system. Else we can think of other ways. Just because something seems difficult doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. :bleh:

As a matter of fact, I found this lying at the top of the forum, somewhat camouflaged with the rest of the posts..

Market Entry Criteria

Supposedly it'll take a day or so, before the permission to enter the market section is given to the concerned member; even after the post count criterion has been achieved. This means, there already exists a system to administer tyros in the market section (an ineffective one at that, might I add). And there also is a 7 day period before which, one may not enter the market section.

Clearly, these rules don't seem sufficient at all. Increase the 7 day period to say, 30 or so and also, introduce a better administering system before one may start posting new deals.

^agree. why hasn't the market thread been deleted till now? that guys still on just 14 posts!

and in his market post he said he likes TE, so he can open another FS thread after he gets the required post count.

I am confused that how he was able to make a FS thread at just 14 posts, afaik there is some required post count before posting in Market section is available for a new member?

Q. I am confused that how he was able to make a FS thread at just 14 posts, afaik there is some required post count before posting in Market section is available for a new member?

A. Step 1 - Spam Spam Spam -----> 35 Posts

Step 2 - Create Market Post

Step 3 - Mods Delete spam post, but your job is done.

he got wat he wanted , he sold his lcd here

now he will again come back only when he has to sell

i was really pissed off !

i pmed all the mods and sadly none of them closed the thread, even after bringing it to everyone's notice,

and the guy sold of his lcd , laughing at TE and its rules!

the one guy asking about what rules is a noob with just 10 posts and the buyer another noob has just 5 posts. bet he didn't even research about the monitor.

i also bet the seller will vanish after the sale. else there was no need of spamming 15-20 posts to reach the 35 mark and open a thread in fraction of a second.

anything goes wrong with the sale and the TE should not [strike]be held responsible[/strike] entertain such posts.

also TE is not responsible as said in the T&C.

but i dont get it that y was the thread not deleted or closed even when all came to knew abt it!

it shud have been closed rightaway
