Hello people,

I plan to upgrade my existing CPU and MoBo (Pentium D805 and Intel 945).

Requirements (Priority wise is:)

1) Decent Gaming Performance (Important)

2) Future Proof

3) Overclocking

Budget: 4.5K for Proccy , 3K for Mobo. (both can be extended by 0.5-1K, but please, I want

to save some money =P )

First of all, I'm stuck between AMD or Intel. Which will offer better VFM?

I was eying the AMD Phenom II x2 550. Will the non-black edition unlock cores? What is the

probability? Any other good options (Ath 435 and x4 630)?

Any good stuff on the intel side? I'm leaning towards intel a bit, I don't know why.

And, is the upgrade to DDR3 worth it? I already have a pair of 2 gig modules.

Thanks.

cant comment on cpu mobo but if you already have ddr 2 ram at least 800 mhz, no point in upgrading to ddr3 use the money saved towards better GPU

also what do you mean by 'decent gaming perf'??
For newer games you would need a gfx card
best IGP is i think the biostar 785 with 128 mb sideport memory
this mobo and a athlon x3 should be around 7k and would make a very balanced combo

1.AMD would be the best choice with your budget and requirements overclockability and also future proof

AMD is really good for low budget gaming PCs

go for and AMD Phenom II x2 550 or the PHENOM II X4 or the Athlon x3 really good processors

Depend if you are gonna run some multi threaded applications then go with the x3

the intel is clearly not the way to go since the only CPUs of intel you will get in your budget will be on LGA 775 Socket which is ancient now and not so good in performance.

and as for the motherboard you would need to extend you budget a ddr2 RAM would do just fine now but soon its gonna be ancient DDR3 is the way to go and they are almost the same price DDR2 will be outdated soon and there will be availability problems and also will become more expensive

@mihir, he already has ddr2 ram which he would have to sell to buy ddr3 :(
also ath x3 435 and phenom 555 differ by about 1.5k (deltapage) so in his budget x3 is better

I am sorry if I was not clear when i read my post again I understood my flaw in sentence making Sorry.

I meant he should go with DDR3 only I meant DDR2 is ancient and he should upgrade
