New norms may freeze Flipkart, Amazon models

Its already known last year itself that Reliance is venturing into e-com space which is why I said that this regulation is a preparatory ground work to put the competition at a severe disadvantage by the time reliance enters so that they can immediately capture the market. Kind of like how JIO was allowed to give free services in the name of testing their network while the competition would be penalized for doing something like that. Also, the nitty gritty in the regulations didn't at all look like the work of offline retail lobby at all and nor was it handiwork of govt bureaucrats. It literally looked like it was drafted by reliance legal team. The 25% rule in particular. This is to ensure that Amazon and Flipkart can't have any exclusive sellers on their platforms to give them an edge. They are also trying to kill all other advantages like free shipping, priority shipping etc.
reliance ecommerce prep was going on since 2 years now. Ajio was their beta testing. But reliance announcing officially just one month after new rules shows the number of ****s they give. Its going to be very interesting few years now

Amazon is buying MORE retail chain now along with some Indian company to ger a foot in brick and mortar land. Motabhai forgot American dollars have more value than Indian Rupee. lol.
Oh now there is an angle. So if you have a store you don't want then amazon is an interested buyer ?[DOUBLEPOST=1547931345][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes

“Jio and Reliance Retail will launch a unique new commerce platform to empower and enrich our 12 lakh small retailers and shopkeepers in Gujarat,” the Reliance chairman said at an event in the state on Friday. Twelve lakh is equivalent to 1.2 million.

Last month, India tightened rules that will disallow foreign-owned online retailers from selling products via companies in which they own equity, and forbid them from pushing merchants to sell exclusively through their platforms. The rules are expected to affect the operations of Amazon as well as its rival Walmart, which acquired Flipkart Online Services Pvt in a $16 billion deal. They’re expected to benefit local enterprises such as Reliance.
Didn't know there was any pushing going on.

Yes its going to get more competitive. Online is here to say, This is just an adjustment so more local sellers can jump in.

Customer wins too ? right

Slowly the picture is forming. Compare to beginning when this thread started and nobody knew what was going on and on that basis started making slams.

More than likely, it was timed that way. And when did they ever give a shit about rules and regulations or public opinion during Jio launch or even further back in the past to start worrying about stuff now. The rich with political clout can get away with anything.

says in the bloomberg article i quoted. ..enrich the 12lakh small retailers and shopkeepers.

How and whether it happens is to be seen but the intent has been declared

By enrich, you mean acche din right? Now where have i heard that before...

To answer that have to figure out how does Ambani's store differ from the likes of amazon & flipkart ?

Why it will be more small store friendly as is touted
Thats what I wanted to know. How will ambani store be any different than flipkart/amazon because their ajio store and birlas abof both had similar models to flipkart/amazon. Infact, both of them still sell their own inventory and not other retailers. So I dont know how it will be any more different than flipkart/amazon for those 12 lakh retailers.

In case anyone has noticed, the eCOM policy has come into effect from 1st Feb. Cloudtail and Appario are gone from Amazon. Everything is selling at 20-30% higher prices or full MRP compared to Cloudtail/Appario. PS4 games that were available at 800-900 are selling for 1200-1500 and games that were around 1700 are over 2000 now from third parties. Same situation in many other product categories.

Even Echo, Kindle, Fire TV etc are either being sold by by third party vendors or not available at all.

On Flipkart, about 25% products were expected to disappear.

Even Prime 1/2 day shipping and FK First will be stopped since they can't give expedited shipping it seems. Now the only reason to buy Prime will be Movies and Music. This country is sucking more and more with every passing year.

Nah. Just wait and watch. Jio Retail will come soon, and give everything free, like they did in the telecom sector.
Agree with telecom sector part atleast.

Past (call incoming/outgoing charges)
As well
Present (+ data costs)
