After two year of Model B launch, Pi foundation made announcement of new Model B+. They don't want to call it a 'New Raspberry Pi' or 'Raspberry Pi 2', but rather, to quote, 'the final evolution of the original Raspberry Pi. '

Some key changes:
  • More GPIO. The GPIO header has grown to 40 pins, while retaining the same pinout for the first 26 pins as the Model B.
  • More USB. We now have 4 USB 2.0 ports, compared to 2 on the Model B, and better hotplug and overcurrent behaviour.
  • Micro SD. The old friction-fit SD card socket has been replaced with a much nicer push-push micro SD version.
Lower power consumption. By replacing linear regulators with switching ones we’ve reduced power consumption by between 0.5W and 1W.
  • Better audio. The audio circuit incorporates a dedicated low-noise power supply.
  • Neater form factor. We’ve aligned the USB connectors with the board edge, moved composite video onto the 3.5mm jack, and added four squarely-placed mounting holes.

However it has same same proccy, RAM and ethernet chip. There are no changes in that department.

And it wont work with existing cases.

I think R-Pi should have given us a better model C with quad core + more RAM.

@Party Monger I am assuming this is for downloading from cyberlockers. Would suggest to go with a cheap Celeron board - you can get them for 5K. Add RAM + HDD, and a cheap PSU.

A link or something? Cant see it on this page http://www.deltapage.com/content/pricelist.htm How much does it finally come to? Maybe we can have a seperate thread for a extremely low cost pc thats good for basic wordprocessing, downloading or coding.

@avi - Basic browsing. Maybe run couple of firefox windows with macros. Utorrent or Orbit downloader. Some coding/development work. (Web and Php). Min 2gb ram.

Ps- Downloading with be all the time. Out of the rest only one thing at a time.

^then surely NO Raspberry Pi. Whats your budget and what all other parts you have?

Its not much really. Yeah I know, Raspberrypi wont cut it, but something like a quadcore ARM for say 5-6k should easily handle it on ubuntu.

No budget as such. But I was thinking 5-6k for the SOC with 2gb ram + A good SD card/pendrive for the data(32gb comes for 1k. Its more than enough, especially if there can be USB3 onboard.)

Just looking for an as-cheap-as-possible machine. Will have an employee or two in a few months and might do some development work on it. Might even get a few more if they work well and last a few years. Hook them up with 18-19inch monitor .

Something like this- http://www.dx.com/p/radxa-rock-rk31...9-development-board-black-311898#.U8VFAJSSw09
Review - http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/774426-radxa-the-100-quad-core-arm-raspberry-pi-alternative
EDIT- It costs 8.8k in India. >.> http://www.innovatesolutions.net/products/radxa-rock https://www.crazypi.com/Radxa-India/RADXA-ROCK

Its a bonus if it can run windows. Like the Celeron board mentioned above by Vivek.

Just wondering how many of you are into electronics development as a hobby. I am slowly getting into the field and setting up a small lab at home now.

Want to build a home automation system as my ultimate goal.

I used to do electronics development as a hobby. Not getting too much time now due to job.

Same for me although I was mor einto competition robots for various college tech fests. But I am getting into it again now and being in Singapore helps a lot as I have access to a lot of good shops and hong kong and shenzhen are nearby as well.

I just started building a lab for the same now as I am also into Remote control hobby for helicopters, planes and nitro cars.

Few things I picked up
Hakko FX888D soldering station
A programmable power supply
Fluke 87, UNI-T multimeters

Planning to get a oscilloscope and a signal generator soon.

This video helped me a lot and i love the channel as well.

This guy is the best thing that happened to the hobby electronics world. [emoji106]

Just placed an order for following

Rasberry Pi B+
Arduino Uno
SDS1072CML Oscilloscope, 70 Mhz, dual channel, 1GSa/s, 2Mpts
SDG1005 Signal generator, dual channel, 5 Mhz

Will post updates when they arrive. :) Excited. Will post when I setup my lab

Current planned Projects
1) Remote control and home automation
2) Audio amplifier

From where did you order the oscilloscope?
What is the final price for the scope? (Price + import fee + shipping)

Why not the Rigol DS1052? It is the most popular scope for hobbyists I think.
