Guys one of ma friends is planing to buy his first comp. and has budget of 25k which can be stretched to 30k..he needs an Intel based system with "all the standard peripherals " & whatever more possible..
Plz suggest the best configurations possible for this budget..thnx..
(do consider the current prices when suggesting the config)

I would appreciate immediate response as he's keen on buying it ASAP..

thanks for ur help..

one more thing..

it will be bought in Chennai (so u can consider prices & availability in Richie Street etc..)

and this isn't gonna be a gaming rig..so nothin too fancy.

talk him into buying AMD (at that price point) or increase his budget and we can make him a rig :D

how about a

AMD X2 4000+ :3k

ASUS M2A VM : 3.6k

Transcend 1GB 667 DDR2 : 2k

Seagate 160 GB SATA 2 HDD : 2.5k

LG/Liteon DVD Writer : 2k

generic cabby + PSU: 2k

MS/Logitec mouse +Kbd: .7k

APC UPS : 2.5k

Altec lansing ATP3: 2.7k

Viewsonic 17" Flat CRT : 5k

comes to 26k.

if he wants an LCD monitor, it will cost him ~3-5k extra

alternately, if he still wants intel,

an E2140 + mobo will set him back at least 2k more , even more if he buys a mobo without onboard gfx

Did you type keyboard+mouse as 7k?? Or 700?? Better off buying amd. Great bang for the buck at that price considering its not for gaming and i doubt he will overclock. Go for viewsonic 1930 then crt, he should love it. A matt finish case from zebby and powersafe 400w (if there's no generic). 160GB should keep him happy.

people are still waking up to AMD..as of now the only brand the masses hear is intel & prefer that...

well ill try changing his mind to AMD..

and how cme transcend ram is 2k ?? i bought a kingston 1gb(ddr2,667mhz) for 1800 monhts back!

and il also ask him to consider buyin a 17" TFT LCD rather than a 19" or 17" CRT..

Last but not the least ...thanks a lot for all ur help !

approximation, some more than the others :ashamed:

well, put it to him this way, either you can have the intel sticker or all these goodies like the ATP3 and the LCD monitor :P

i dont invest too much in a processor/GPU as both their prices fall like rocks.

when i bought my first rig, i spent more than 30k on sound, and i can confidently say that i can at least get 20k for my gear if i wanted to sell it now, and more importantly , it still sounds great :D . I also do recall that at that time , the FX5950 ultra was also selling for a similar amount ;)

Even if he is into the intel 'hype' victims, tell him the ghz difference. That should be convincing enough. Go for onboard if he is buying for just for sake of using it.

well buddy heres wat i would recommend, and a lot of you are gonna be shocked with this (:bleh: ) but anyways since its not for gaming in my opinion there is no better option than this rig :P , so lemme know how do u like this config?? Here goes:-

Intel(R) Pentium(TM) Dual-Core Processor E2140 (1.6GHz, 800FSB, 1MB)

( or E6550 for 2k more.)

Genuine Windows Vista(TM) Home Basic 32 bit (English/Hindi) DVD Media

Memory 1GB (2X512) NECC Dual Channel DDR2 667MHz SDRAM Memory

Dell Keyboard & Mouse & Mouse Mat

Floppy Drive & Card Reader 19-in-1 Hi-Speed Media Card Reader

Hard Drive 160GB SATA

Optical Drives 16X DVD+/-RW with Dual Layer Write Capabilities

Video Card Integrated Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor (Analog & DVI)-Silver color

Add to this ATP3 & 650 va APC ups

Now the best part of this config is the price: im sure ud be like wat the hell i want all that stuff in the price range of 23k (for the system)+ 2.5k (atp3) and

2.8k(apc upc) total of 28k.:bleh: :) :D :ohyeah: :ohyeah:

Trust me it doesnt get better than this, and by now a lot of people would have guessed , (i hope) that the config im talkin about is the dell inspiron 530s,

the price on this system is totally unbelievable, iv already decided to go for it for my office, (witout ta atp3 :( !! boss says no music in ta office :@ )

Man i would seriously suggest u to stop looking elsewhere an jump into this wagon..!! Dell has finally decided to kill the middlemen in the industry..!!

Only drawback: 1 year warranty, an im totally willing to take that risk. After 1 year rip it open an stick in another gig or 2 of ram an uv got a basic works machine for the next 2 years gauranteed!!:hap2: :hap2:

Hope it helps u!!

Cheers Mate!! :hap2: :cool2:

Since when did we start paying taxes to Dell??

 They'l give you a gud deal if u can talk tem into it. Buy at the end of the month or atleast the week.. Or maybe during some festival... :hap2: Gud Luck

no i mean is the price in the site all we pay? usually when I've gone to buy other branded stuff, the dealers add at least 10% to the advertised price as taxes n stuff

so there are no further/hidden costs when buying from dell

well iv ordered laptops from dell where theyv given rebates of the taxes, an the 23.5k price tag includes shipping so thats nothin 2 worry.. an as for the taxes man ur gonna hav to talk them out of it,, they normally do but i dont know if thy will for such a super duper value.. try ur luck!!
Cheers Mate!!:hap2: :cool2:

Can someone give a link to the Dell deal.

Also howz the E2140 Dual Core performance in comparison with AMD X2 4000+ and the Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 in comparison with AMD 690G?

Will I be better off buying this deal than an assembled one (my requirements are exactly the same as the hardware that is in this machine)

hey thats not the link, tats for vostro which is stil a lil expensiv. the link for the dell inspiron is:
http://dellstoreroa02.sg.dell.com/public/cart/configurator.jsp?prd_id=41614&sr_no=1

if that doesnt work, try

Dell Desktops - Small and Medium Business
an choose the inspiron 530 s on the left, the price shown is 27k but once u click on it, it will show a price of 25k, then go to the monitor option an change from the widescreen to the normal 19" an voila the price is 23k.

branded pc's are for noobs.

Don't even dream about changing memory timings on that dell rig, let alone overclocking.

If we change the M2A-VM in Greenhorn's first post to an M2N-MX, you can overclock that X2 4000+ to 2.4 or 2.5 Ghz and have a good and powerful system for less.

buddy thetoxicmind clearly states that the pc is not going to be used for gaming, so tell me y would u want to overclock it. an it is preety obvious that if he wants such a basic rig it for general comp/net use only by prob a novice user. Clearly i dont understand y u would overclock it?? Man if u think branded pcs are for noobs, I wonder y alienware/ xps desktops sell so much.. ??

Think about his requirements befor postin mate..
