This's the board:
GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI (rev. 1.0)

AFAIK the integration of both SLI & CF on X58 chipset boards came later on and seems like Gigabyte has released the newere revision of the UD3R board under the name UD3R-SLI. :)

U can as well go for the MSI Eclipse. SiriusB, a TE member owns the board for over a couple of weeks and seems like he's doing some good stable OCs on it.
 
Are you spending money just for the sake of it ?

What do you do just game wouldnt going for Phenom II + a better GFX be better then what your gonna do now ?
 
Am not lavish enough to do what u said. Phenom II might be good, but I would like to have some leeway for upgrades atleast after a year or two. And looking by the state of things, 1366 is the way to go. Cos am quite sure that AM2/ AM3 is not going to stay. I do not want to be stuck with a system that has no roadmap for future upgrades!
 
Motherboard - Gigabyte EX58-UD5 , buy once and for all. The best x58 Motherboard out there! Do whatever you want with it , overclock , crossfire , SLI whatever. Will be around Rs 16500 or so. ;)
 
i7 is the way to go. Its not cheap and will be probably 10k more than a pheno 2 config but imo its what you have to pay for latest tech. The board prices are coming down and it will probably be very affordable in 6 months.

Here are a few things I have noticed on the egg that make the i7 a very tempting proposition.

Imo its worth the extra $$ triple channel memory a platform that will last 2 years so later you can upgrade to the 6 core monster expected q1 2009 and last but not least major bragging rights it makes the phenom 2 look lame
 
Why don't you wait for Westmere processors from intel. It will be equivalent in performance to i7, hopefully less on the cost.

Though they are not expected to release before the Q3 of this year.
 
@All: Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys. I will go in for either the MSI X58 Platinum or Gigabyte EX58-UD5 whichever is cheaper. Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I will check the rates on Saturday at Ritchie street and update this thread. BTW any specific RAMs that I should look out for in DDR3? I will see all that the dealers offer with their pricings as well. Thanks a lot once again!

@var89: Waiting is a never-ending process in electronics especially computer hardware is concerned. There is always a better model lurking around the corner. Its wiser to buy the best that u can afford matching ur requirements at that point of time.
 
dude your sugestion that amd am3 has no upgrade path is quite wrong...
amd has just done the die shrink and thus it wont be getting a chipset change anytime soon....
also amd is considerate enuf to keep platforms backward compatible...
i reallly detest intels new roadmap of introducing two totally different chipsets for the midrange and high end i mean the 1366 i7 and 1166 i5. it gets u stuck at one price point....
i guess its intel strategy to make u upgrade to a new chipset as soon as it is released....
moreover if u game a lot then the graphics card does mattter a lot..
so saving up cash on decent processor and going for a gtx 285 will give u better mileage in gaming....
mind you this only holds if u upgrade ur monitor to 24" otherwise with a 17"..
i7 with 4850 is gud enuf...
plz dont crossfire. My friends setup has been in reeling problems once he cf 2 4850's heat issues too aside from even negative scaling...
 
Ok after being away for more than a month, finally getting the PC components this weekend. Here goes my config:

Processor - i7 920 - ~15K

MBoard - Gigabyte DS4 - ~15K

PSU - CORSAIR HX750 - ~8K

RAM - Am very confused about this. Planning to get it thru' Mr. KMD. I checked links and found RAMs for OCZ, Corsair, Kingston, Patriot on many sites suggested. Am planning to get 1600MHz 3*2GB RAM sticks. Can u guys suggest me a proper RAM cos am also a bit doubtful of compatibility issues.

As for Graphics card/Display/HDD and other stuff, I have them all with me. Any other changes to my above config are also welcome
 
Can u also enlighten me with the latency details? I saw RAMs with 7-7-7-20, 8-8-8-24, 9-9-9-24, 7-7-7-24. Which is better and why? Also CORSAIR Dominator series, G-Skill with the same specs of the OCZ are available for a cheaper rate. Can u guys clarify?
 
Just fyi, kmd's rates have gone up.. Back then he used to charge around 60bucks to the dollar.. now its more like 70 bucks to the dollar.
 
Freequency higher = better, tight timings r better eg. 7-7-7 is better than 8-8-8, now search balanced RAM.

The faster the RAm freq, the faster the Data rate obviously, and the tighter the timings, the faster the rate...The problem arises when you want a good OC and want to maintain stable freq and timings....Since the core i7 has an onboard mem controller, its crucial to have stable RAM...Currently have mine running at 1545Mhz at 7-7-7-24 whereas my RAM is rated at 8-8-8-24.
 
Thanx for the tip guys. Am aware of the frequency part, just wanted to know the timing details. So basically I go ahead with a good brand RAM with good timings(and price)!

find what fits :)

most good 1600mhz ddr3 6Gb kits should do atleast 8-8-8-24 @ 1T timings ..

my dominators have run up to 1700 mhz with 8-8-8-24@ 2T with 12GB ram and 7-7-7-20 @ 1T with 6Gb ram @ 1.65v and a Qpi of 1.38.

just my 2 cents
