I dont see the point honestly, you have a very very good processor as is. If gaming is your priority then maybe instead of getting a 216 get something monstrous like a 4870x2 or a 295. That should be about the same as going for some AMD setup which will be the same or inferior as far as gaming goes.

However if you want points in 3d benches then you will see a BIG improvement with a quad intel 9x5x series or a phailom 2.

Also moving to 216 will be an improvement but @ ~ 14-15 k the 4890 would make more sense in your case.

Exactly mate thats what i want i mean better gpu as ill be using it mostly for gaming and surfing nothing else but then i guess E8500 will be a bottleneck for 295 etc thats why i had to balance things here with a quad and then settle for 260.no 3d benches nothing not going to do all that and have never done any benchmarks. With i7 already in the market so i was just trying to avoid spending on LGA775 as its a dead end i wont be able to upgrade later on,where as with Phenom 2 that is not an issue.

well your actual plan made sense in terms of upgradability , but as everyone pointed out it doesn't enhance your performance by a great factor.

don't be afraid of overclocking because one shouldn't aim for insane overclocks but those that are stable 24/7 with normal temperatures.

thus right now if you invest in a good gpu(that is the only thing you need to change to play games better) and overclock your current processor slightly to say about 3.6-3.8ghz your cpu wont be a bottleneck anymore

later on you can upgade your whole rig piece by piece.

everytime im tempted to give my rig an overhaul i go online and start looking on every review i get my hands on and strangely my adamancy on buying a new rig goes away and i end up buying a single piece of hardware that generally scales up the performance quite well.

also amd does have better upgradability path but still i would like you to wait for a few months before going hte amd way as your current rig could give an
amd rig a run for it's money
