thanks for lighning quick replies.. could u also suggest an alternative AMD rig? also pls keep the following in mind

Lowest end HD graphics just to keep the monitor running at optimum...

i've not been keeping myself updated about latest developments (am at least a year behind i think) so could you also specify if the RAM is ddr2 or 3? Also, a 500 Gb or a 320gb HDD would MORE than suffice. no need for 1TB.

thanks.. and keep 'em coming :)

bump!!!

any new suggestions??

If i go for CHEAPEST quad core (either intel or AMD) i read X4 620 hovers around 5.5k range? with a low end asus mobo... what else would i be compromising on?? Also, how much would the cheapest wireless mouse/kb cost?

the config that i've suggested you is the best IMO as you won't be using the PC.

as it's for your parents that's why they don't require a Quad Core.

remove the G.Card & it's 25.1k Total.

you can overclock that E5300 later on when you'll be using it.

@ naveen58

thanks... I've already sent a copy of ur config to dad, but just, for curiosity's sake, i would like a X4 620 based config, so that it remains QUITE future proof. If it seems viable, i would definitely go for it. Will it come within 30k?

CPU AMD Athlon II 2.6 Ghz. 620 X4 - Rs.5,150

MB 4AMD Biostar ATI 790 Chipset TA790GXB A2+ - Rs.4,400

Monitor BenQ G 2020 HD 20 inch DVI n HDCP - Rs.6,350

Memory DDR II Transcend 800 mhz 2 Gb - Rs.1,700

HDD WD SATA 500gb 32 MB Cache - Rs.2,550

SMPS Zebronics 500W Real Power Pro Rs.2,750

UPS Zebronics 600 VA - Rs.1,250

Cabinet Zebronics Bijli w/o SMPS - Rs.1,150.00

KB Mouse Combo Logitech USB Black - Rs.700

DVD Writer Samsung SATA Black 22X - Rs.1,000

Speaker 2.1 Altec Lansing 1121 - RS 1050

Total after 4 % tax would be almost 30k.

motherboard not sure of which is good.. within 5k can get a decent 1 i guess in asus or GB too

cheapest would be Asus Chipset M2 AMX - 2500

Proccy- AMD AthlonII 240 - 3.1k
M/B- Biostar 785GE - 3.4k (good IGP for HD videos and for light gaming)
Ram- Transcend 2GB 800MHz DDRII - 1.6-1.7k (DDRII RAM rates have gone up lately and you wont be able to find a 2GB stick for less than this price)
HDD- WD 500GB SATA 3.5" -2.5k
Monitor- Dell E1910 - 6.5k
Cabinet-Zebby Bijili with SMPS - 1.7k
Optical Drive- any DVDRW- 1.1k
Speakers - Altec Lansing BXR1221 -1.1k
K/B & Mouse- Logitech Combo- 0.7k
Total - 21-22k :)
Save the rest of the amount and invest on something else. No need to spend more for your needs. Even regular HD movies wont be problem because of the good IGP(HD4200). This setup can handle your needs with ease.:hap2: Just one correction if needed. AFAIK the biostar A.S.S is not too great. So consider the Gigabyte MA78GM-US2H/Asus M3A78-EM. Both should cost around 4.5k.
