Another friend of mine had his socket A mobo die. wanted to get something new for him. Something the bare minimum, as he had another pc , and a spare AGP card

I have been recommending the MSI K9 MM-v for budget builds , but twas the first time i'd actually used one :D cost 2.2k

we chose that over a 6100 based board as he had an agp card spare.

and the sempron 3400+ , cos the LE 1100's price seems to have actually risen by 200 rs, its ~1.7k now. They're trying to get rid of the older semprons , i guess thats why the other one is more expensive. Anyway, its just for casual use , occasional CS , and power saving wasnt important. so got the 3400+

got UMAX :S RAM. pity it was all the shop near his house had :| oh well, it works :)

the k9MM-v bios had a few glitches , especially getting stuck which strangely got cured when we removed the jumpers to the power LED... weird . but otherwise , runs fine :) didnt test out the onboard video or sound either , but should be fine :)

it has 3 pci slots , and an AGP slot , could be good to give life to an old system ;) . especially the extra PCI slots is a great idea, now that most budget AM2 mobos have only two PCI slots :@

Its also got a few options to OC. at least Something ! my gigabyte doesnt have anything !

anyway my friend insisted on booting from his old XP cos he had been running on an A7V400, a via board , so (at least he claimed) it should work

it certainly didnt :P and i was trying to make the windows running smoothly with the correct drivers. I'll try to get driver cleaner pro clean up the mess , or if that doesnt help, put in a clean reinstall and let you guys know how good the drivers are :)

argh, turns out there is a multitude of Fscked up bios settings which are set at the wrong vaules by default . will have a stab at it .

I guess this disqualifies it from the lists of those who want just a cheap onboard, its not worth the trouble.

On the other hand , its the only AGP board available , if you want to use your old one ....

ok, here's a list of problems found with it so far with some googling

1) wont work with Ati cards :|

2) Ram voltage and timings not set correctly. voltage can be set, others not configurable :|

3) AGP bios settings , fast write etc not set correctly ( can bear that one though)

4) USB emulation needs to be turned off, else will not POST with USB KBD /Mouse.... :@

erm mods , could someone change the title to MSI K9MM-V . there seems to be a shortage of info on this particular board on the net. should help others searching for info on this board :)

lolz greenhorn

i had been using that board with 3600+ for 6 months

worked like a charm

but the onboard audio was good but the video was ****ed up

wont even play cs on proper settings at 1024*768

and else everything was good for me

just that it wont boot when i put 2 ram sticks of 1 gig each

else the board was rock stable with few ocing options in which i was able to oc 3600+ to max of 2.4 ghz

hey ^^^ mine is 1.3 at oc 2.9 ghs at asus m2n-e using amd 4400x/2

and jetway mo 1.2v at 2.6 ghs oc using amd 4000+

but you need better smsp/psc dual rail 12v and 20 amps
