Storage Solutions New to Image copy

I have two different systems p3 and AMD athlon, Phenom build is in progress. If something got corrupted i am lazy to install os again and later software. I can make image copy of the content by ghost, acronis but it should work on varying hardware platform(generic) so it can be used by my friends also. Please help me on this. In my office they are using bart pe + norton ghost image. What is this bart pe. is there any other software available?
Generic doubt: How different is between ghost image and recovery disk. I heard you can use recovery disk in a formatted system or other system.

I am not sure if you are asking about windows recovery disk?

Regarding GHOST its a image based software that you already know. You can restore to a different hardware but then again its not supported by MS. If you restore it on a different hardware, the OS might go in a reboot loop or give a Blue Screen error like Stop 0x7B etc. Mostly people do a repair install of the OS from the Windows CD once its restored to a different hardware and is not booting the OS.

Now this is not that simple for Server OS like Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003. If your restore it to a different hardware the server services like Active Directory which generate SID's based on hardware finger print might get screwed up. So MS doesnt provide support on such restores if they determine it.
