I just got the hdd last week. I tested it with seatools yesterday and it failed the "Short DST" test. Also while copying 60% of the files from it back to my old hdd, I got a "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" 5-6 times, though in the end, I was unable to copy back only one file.

Also, the hard drive was running in PIO mode when I first installed it. I only fixed it after 5-6 days after getting the solution from this forum.

What should I do now? Should I boot seatools from a cd and do the Long DST test and let the software repair my drive if possible, or should I immediately RMA it? What is Western Digital policy for bad sectors?

Test it with WD data lifeguard tool available for free download from WD's site. If even this test fails then RMA it.

why are u testing it with Sea Tools , AFAIK Sea Tools is an app only for Seagate Drives......check it with the WD tool as mentioned by paraman.

I installed the Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for windows and ran the "Quick Test". I got an error message that Quick Test could not complete. What could be the problem?

just to clear the air and reconfirm , drive "2" as the error reads is the WD ? if yes then its RMA time....

Yes, drive 2 is my new WD hard drive. So, there is no need for me to boot the Data LifeGuard Diagnostics from a CD and do additional test?

I dont see a point in going into the extended tests when the quick test fails in the first place. Go to the WD webbie and generate a RMA online and have them replace it.

I downloaded Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS (CD) and burn the image to a CD but I am unable to load the software after booting. First of alll, it says that it cannot find the license text file and then it cannot locate A:/command.com.

Is there any limitations in running the extended test from Windows, considering that its my 2nd HDD and it does not have any bootable partitions?

Install the windows version of data lifeguard in the hdd where your OS is. And then test the 2nd hdd which is having the problems.

But why do you want to perform additional tests? It is obvious from the screenshot that you have posted that there is SMART failure. Just back-up the defective drive's data and RMA it.
