The latest shots in the Microsoft vs. Xbox 360 console hacker war have been fired, and this time it's Microsoft who took one in the chest. After banning a bunch of Xbox 360s with modded firmware DVD drives earlier this month, the company's ban checks have just been defeated by a new version of the DVD firmware.

Not a lot of details are listed in the release info, but the new version claims to defeat "all current and some future Xbox Live detection attempts", which means you'd be safe running this until the next dashboard update from Microsoft

Score One For Hackers: Xbox 360 Firmware Hackers Release New Version, Bypasses Ban Checks - Gizmodo

Multi-play hungry hackers won’t be slowed by Microsoft’s attempts to lock their chipped consoles out of the Live service – they’ve cooked up a tasty hack to circumvent the big M’s checks.

Dubbed iXtreme firmware, the hack-tastic update “defeats all current and some future Xbox Live detection attempts” its creators say.

It means Microsoft’s once more being taken for a ride by cheeky chippers but we bet this won’t be the last we hear of it.

Stay tuned for Microsoft’s response. We expect it’ll be swift, brutal and twice as tricky to dodge as the last one.

M$ must be crying like a baby!!!

All i can say is that SONY has done a gr8 job on curbing piracy..build a hardware that would be difficult to break!!!

LOL on M$

Console gaming should not be so much expensive. Ideal price should be around Rs. 1000 per game. Then, there should be no need for modded consoles.

Nah IMO even 1k is too much for games .... Here Movie DVD's r available for arnd 500 bucks but do u see people like us buying dem ? No rather we prefer to download dem. Now moserbaer has initiated a new revolution selling the DVD's for just 34 bucks , sure the system needs alot of work but still its a start .... now i am definately gonna think twice before downloading a particular movie coz if the same is available for 34 bucks it sure is worth an orignal buy !!

We cant Just ask the publisher to drop the price....cos -

1] Importing duties are high

2] Publishers have to pay SONY/M$ royalties to print PS3/X360 on the package

3] BLU RAY would be costly till next 2-3 yrs(Look at DUAL LAYER DVD-150/200bucks)

Then the best option is to stick with a PC for a while...

but i still think online gaming will simply rock in consoles like they do in PC!

IMO PSN offer online gaming similar to PC environment!!!

Though I havent seen it...

Whereas 360 charges you to play games online....that sucks!!!

Also heard sometime back that M$ has registered a patent regarding Bringing LIVE to PC....(LMAO on M$) PC Gaming can go haywire!!!

1) No import duties on s/w afaik. Or they are pretty low.

2) True.

3) Can't say. Things may change verrry soon. At least Sony is hoping so... screwed if true, screwed if false!!!!

No i believe that the govt. recently increased duties on software imports. But even then the game publishers can make a profit selling games at RS.1000 or atleast Rs.1400. Rs. 3k is too high for an average indian to pay.

What we expect is a simple game...give us core game for 1k...we are happy...we dont want interview, trailers, making videos etc...

But i guess all future games must have online gameplay. Online gameplay is sure to rock the console gaming and it increases the shelf life of the game.
