New Delhi: Delhi entered the seventh day of uninterrupted severe heat conditions on Saturday and at 43.7 degrees Celsius, recorded the hottest day in April in the last 52 years.

"Today's maximum is the highest for the last 52 years," B P Yadav, the Meteorological department director, said. "Though Sunday would be no better, a Western Disturbance is on the cards. It will keep the city cooler from Monday to Thursday at least," he added.

At seven degrees above normal, the weatherman attributed the soaring temperatures to hot winds coming in from the country's west. Lack of rain and clear sky in the last one month has worsened the conditions.

The last time temperature rose to this extent was in 1958. The all-time record for this month was on April 29, 1941, when the mercury had touched 45.6 degrees Celsius.

The low also recorded a high for the month at 26.5 degrees Celsius -- six notches above normal. Last year, the maximum temperature in April had touched 43.5 degrees Celsius.

This year, temperatures in and around the city have remained higher compared to previous years. Delhi also experienced unusually hot days last month, which the Met department said was the second warmest March for the city since 1901.

The mercury had touched 39.2 degrees Celsius on March 21 this year which was the second highest maximum temperature in the month of March in the last 65 years.

im scheduled to be in delhi day after tomorrow, have been on bed for the past 2 days with severe fatigue, high fever and dehydration....am wondering what will happen to me if i go there as per schedule.....:(
 
Conditions aren't any better here in Indore with temperatures hovering around 42C to 43C everyday. And to think that it might go even higher in May is scaring.. :( I rarely go out of home nowadays.
 
The dry heat in all the landlocked places like Delhi, Indore, Nagpur, Ahmedabad is extremely dangerous... guys water is your savior.

Very true. Water is our saviour... yet very much elusive. Fortunately, not much problems in the area I live.
 
power cuts in my area bcoz of repairs/maintainence has been extremely painful!! and these power cuts happen during the afternoons. i am seriously considering a netbook now which can last me 8-10 hours and provide sd video playback. off late i have been going to office a lot more than usual just to spend time in the AC. my fascist boss thinks that summers should last all year(for a 1000 years!) as more people come to work and this will enhance the net productivity.
 
^ the weather is nothing like how it was here 2 years ago. Most road side trees gone. Thanks to the metro and the brainless road widening. Big time.

I'd experienced >40'C recently whilst in Surat and boy, it WAS hot! Could literally feel the effect of standing next to a furnace or an oven! Could barely step out to have lunch. D:

And it so feels good to sleep on a room right underneath the terrace! >_<

The number of degrees itself matters less than what you actually perceive and it depends a lot on the place itself. For example I have lived in parts of Andhra Pradesh where the temp touched 47~48 deg and it was so damn hot that blood flowed out of your nose if you dare go outside in the afternoon. But I feel the 43 deg in Chandigarh is a lot worse than that.
